I just had to tell you about the great stuff I got this weekend at an estate sale. I have been looking for a sewing machine cabinet and a serger. On Friday morning there was an estate sale just around the corner from where we live.

I went down there and there was a bedroom filled with sewing stuff. Dressers and boxes filled with fabric, 2 sewing machines in tables, and notions like you can't believe.

Long story short, for $98.00 over the course of the weekend, I have been back there 4 times, I know I have over $1000.00 worth of stuff, and more likely $1500.00, maybe more.

I bought a sewing machine cabinet, found out after I got it home it is a Delta. It has 2 drawers and a cutting table/work table that pull out. With that table came a Singer 9117 sewing machine. At the time I wasn't even looking at the machine. Come to find out when my husband looked it up, right now it could be bought for $499.00 and the orginal retail frome this one site was $899. It didn't have the manual and any extra feet but I will work on that next and probably take it in to be serviced and let my daughter "borrow" it, with the understanding if she ever doesn't want it, it comes back to me.

Then there were the notions, I got 2 boxes full of buttons, the shoe box type storage boxes. I got another box of lace type seam binding. I have never used that before I will have to find out the uses for that. Another box of bias tape binding. All of these were in all sizes and colors. I got threads, pins, seam gauges, tape measures, needles, elastic, and other odds and ends. I think I forgot to mention in the 2 drawers in the sewing cabinet, they were full of iron on transfers.

I also got some fabric. Probably about 10 to 15 pieces. Although the whole room is was full a lot of it was older polyester. I found some wonderful pieces though in the ones I got.

I feel so lucky to have happened by this sale. I wanted to remind everyone not to forget what a treasure you might find going into these sales. Now in my RV, I have my sewing nook. We took out our table and chairs and I stayed up until 1am. Friday night arranging my sewing table. We now have a good machine for our grown daughter to learn to sew on and all this for under $100.00. :D

9117 New in box

The Singer # 9117 is a classic slant needle design, it has a gear drive

Congratulations on your find. A neighbor bought a house in the neighborhood for investment purposes. Yesterday he called me to come look at a sewing machine that he had found in the garage. It's an Atlas Precision, bright pink with shiny chrome trim and a heavyweight. I drooled when I saw it but knew DH would kill me if I brought home anymore sewing machines. It's in a worn leather case and is an electric rotary machnie that only sews a straight stitch (as best I can tell). The serial # is A850372 and it was made in Japan. The cords are not frayed and it does sew a nice seam (did try it out). I would guess it's value to be around $100 or so since I'm unfamiliar with the brand and could not find any info on ISMACS. Anyway, if DH agrees, I may go back for it. My neighbor has offered it to me for $20. Hmmm ... now if I only had a sewing room. Happy Stitching~ Marty
It takes one moment to change a life.

OMG, You are not going to believe what I got today. Sitting nicely on a table about an hour ago was a Necchi Pro Lock Serger PL1036 for $10.00. It has all the feet, she is looking for the foot pedal, she knows it runs, may need some service for the tension. She got it 5-6 years ago. I have the manual and I figured for $10.00 even if I put a little into it, I didn't think it was a bad deal. She paid $400.-$500. for it new.

I am so exicted, if I get this going I am all set now!
