Hi everyone - I'm brand new to this board, just discovered you tonight. I've been thinking of making some simple things for my new home and want to get a good, simple machine to learn on but there are so many to choose from, I'd like to get experienced opinions on what features are important and what are useless. I think I'll stick to simple curtains, table runners and bed skirts. Mostly straight lines for me. Any advice on brands, features, etc would be appreciated. Thanks!

Pfaff has a really basic one for $150ish, Great quality at a good price.

Huskystar by Viking also has a good quality low option machine for around $199.

Also check with your local dealers, you can often find a good used machine. Good way to get a good deal.
