Ok, I have narrowed my search for a new machine down to the Babylock Ellageo, the Brother ULT 2003D or the Singer XL6000 and now there are some new ones supposed to come out by the early fall. So does anyone have one of the machines I mentioned and can you tell me what you like/dislike about it, I'd also like to know what size design you can do in a single hooping and no one seems to be able to tell me. I really don't want to deal with another company like Pfaff when I got the 7570 years ago, the company support was non existant and would like a company that at elast attemps to back the expensive machines they sell. Thanks for any help.:bg:

Just to add to your list...and I only say this cuz most places have this seriously dropped the price of this machine.

Viking Designer II, its upgradagble, able to add stitches, has all the bells and whistles of the top of the line, can add embroidery, lots of support.

Now let me tell you why they are dropping the price. As you said, the new machines are coming in the fall. Viking has a new top of the line coming, pushing the Designer 1 into the 2nd slot of the line. Quilt Designer II is going to be 3rd in the line.

They are discontinuing the Quilt Designer (never will do embroidery) and the Designer II (name only) and bringing in the Quilt Desginer II.

The Designer II and the Quilt Designer II are the EXACT SAME MACHINE, one just has the word QUILT added. But since most dealers are getting the quilt designer II, they have reduced the price of the Designer II, and you can get a hell of a deal.

Don't know if your interested in Vikings or not, I personally love them, but may be at least a look-see.

The dealer I will be going to does carry Viking machines too so I will check it out for sure, right now I am not locked into any brand, I started looking for Babylock first because I have the Imagine and the Evolve and have been so pleased with them. Aren't Vikings in the Bernina price range? I don't think I can afford to spend what they cost, but I will check them out.......thanks for your reply. mattie

Vikings run less than Bernina..usually. I went for a Viking over a Bernina because i wanted the best quality and name, at the lowest price.

In my opinion and experience, Bernina, Pfaff and Vikings are the top of the line brands, quality wise, but Viking is the less expensive of the bunch.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with other brands...just all the serious, professional, and competition quilters I know use one of these. Also the histories of the companies themselves hold up to the test of time, another thing I look for.
(I only mention that as an example of what I look at, I am NOT putting down Singer)

a whole line got chopped...I mentioned about Singer being sold a while back, and how they company, almost 20 years after the sale, is finally getting back on track quality wise....thats why I added the comment about Singer.

not sure what happened but it got omitted from the previous entry.

I don't know how the Viking company itself is for support but my friend had a Pfaff dealership for the past 9 years (closed up the shop 3 months ago) she started carrying Babylocks too and said they were good on support, the Pfaff support broke down even more than when I had my problems with them after Viking took over Pfaff, it all figured in her decision to shut down her shop. I like the look of the Viking machines at least I did back when I first got the Pfaff 7570 (which looked like a kids toy to me) but I haven't seen one of the ones after the 1& came out. Can you tell me aproximately how much they run? I know the 1 plus was more than my Pfaff way back when, do they come with the embroidery unit or is it a separate purchase? What size designs do they do in a single hooping, without having to split designs? Sorry for all the questions but I really want to check out all possibilites before I have my poor dealer spend all day with me in his hair, and if I can rule out some before I get to the shop he will be able to help his other customers while I am there. Thanks for all your help/suggestions. mattie:bg:

I know viking education and instructors are always having things thru the local dealer, I personally get answers back same or next day if i have to email them and my dealer is great support.

The D2 currently at my dealer ( I cannot vouche for others however) normally sells for $2999, and is on sale for $1899. It has all the bells and whistles of the D1. It comes with 3 stitch cards.

The embroidery unit is $899 and the stitch cards run around $70 (if you want to add to your collection)

Most Viking dealers are currently having a Christmas in July sale going on, so you may get even more deals. As I said, I'm not trying to sale the machine, I just happen to love viking and do think its worth a look.

Sewbug,
Thats a great sale! that includes the embroidery unit? or do they give you 3 cards in the hopes that you would spend the $899 for the unit so you could use them? I'll have to check it out at my dealers (he's in NJ and I'm in Louisiana until the end of the week), where is your dealer? How big of a design does the machine do? I know the Ellageo does a 6 by 10 in a single hooping without having to split and my dealer quoted me $2999 for it but by the time I actually buy a new machine they most likely will have come out with the new ones so he may go lower, he wouldn't quote me a price on the ULT because of Brothers new dealer rules and he said he would give me the XL6000 at less than the $3400 it is going everywhere else. I wil be up east for at least a few months and will go take classes at his shop as often as I can but then I will be back down here with no local support so I kind of need a machine that I can pretty much figure out on my own. I am getting more excited about getting a new machine now that actual users are telling me about the ones they have, instead of just the usual dealers sales pitch. Thanks again. mattie

No the embroidery unit is separate. Its something you dont have to buy this minute, you could add it later if you chose to. Thats why the Designer II was designed that way, sewers were requesting all the bells and whistles of the D1, but didnt want embroidery ....yet....so Viking answered the requests thru the Designer II.

The embroidery unit contains , the same as the Designer 1, you get all 3, including the mega hoop (very large). You also get a collection of embroidery designs, and embroidery fonts to use

The 3 cards that come with the machine are stitches, and you can add to your stitch file collection, say next year you decided to get into heirloom, you can purchace heirloom stitches for your machine, etc.

Another thing to mention is that there is new viking software, that means the old stuff (still viable btw) is 1/2 off (at least my dealer)

I have a Brother 8500 which is several years old, and I dearly love it, but that is because I do machine embroidery with it, too. For sewing, I would buy a used Bernina! I had an 1130 which I gave my daughter, and I still miss it!! The 1130 and 1230 are two of the best machines Bernina ever made! But some owners also love their 830 and 930 machines. The 1130 and 1230 are computerized and make great buttonhole automatically. I just tried some on the Brother 8500 (once top of the line, but now old), and it makes buttonholes easily and automatically, too!! I just insert a button in back of the automatic buttonholer; then I can adjust stitch width and length, too!!

Good luck! There are so many great machines out there!

Well I got my new machine a few weeks ago. I got the new Babylock Ellegante and am just having a ball with it, it really does beautiful work and is pretty easy to use. I wanted to thank those who answered my intial question regarding machines out there. I have just been playing with it and trying out things, I made my grandson a new blanket using the applique designs in it and it came out great and he loves it, I am starting on one for my grand daughter tomorrow and then for our other grandson and the new baby due in May, this machine is sure to get a workout in the near future.

I'm a little late here Mattie but I'd like to know if you tested the other machines you mentioned first. I used the new Singer XL 6000 at the sewing conference last week and loved it. Especially the continuous hoop feature. We made a cute bag out of organdy and used that hoop to make a lace top all the way around the bag and it's simply georgeous and so easy to use. The price is not bad and I think I'm sold on one by the end of the month I'm hoping to have one in my sewing room. I'd like to know about the other also. Thanks susie

Susie,
I did try several machines in my search.....most of them I liked very much and probably would have been quite happy with but the one I got just seemed to "fit" me right. The Singer was close in the running but I didn't like the thread exchanger, there are ways to work around it but I go for easy and like to be able to use all different brands of thread without having to find a work around for different spools, also a few people who owned the machine found the company itself less than responsive to their questions, they felt they had no support for any problems they encountered. I tried the new Innovis by Brother which is almost the same as the Ellegant that I got but I'm not a big fan of Disney so went with the Nancy Z designs in the Ellegante. I really liked the Janome 10001 but the dealer here in town would only sell me the 10000 for the same price as I got the Ellegante for, I would have had to pay extra for the upgrade to the 10001, why pay more for technology that is a few years older than what I got for a higher price was the way I looked at it. The Viking machines were nice but didn't really stand out for me and the Berninas had higher prices for feet and such which I seem to collect and not use so again that would have added to my cost. I think I would have been happy with the Ellageo3 but hubby was with me and said he wanted to buy the latest one out. I have to say I am very happy with the machine and just feel comfortable with the Babylock company itself, they seem to be very responsive to their customers, for instance I have emailed them several times over the past few years and have always gotten a response to my questions within 24 hours, my dealer agrees with me there he told me of all the companies he dealers with ( he sells many brands) he finds them to answer and help him faster and better than the other manufacturers, he's even gone and met the owner overseas himself. When the machine came out last month the women that bought them complained that it only listed thread numbers not actual color names and boom, they sent out and update to give us the color names. If I can help anymore please ask. mattie

Thanks Mattie for your quick reply. I love the way the singer can put the design the right way even if you hoop it crocket. I own the Janome 9000 and I've only split a design once and gave up doing it because it was such a pain doing it that way. They are selling the Singer for 2999.00 here with the conti. hoop. What is the babylocks selling for if you don't mind me asking? I was told it sold for around 6200.00, the newest one out. The dealers in our area are not very trust worthy. I feel like they are willing to tell you anything to make a sale and then they drop the hammer on you and tell you after you're hooked what's not covered and included. Or they side step you and down right lie to you. I found one here in town that is not like that so I'm going to buy this time from him. Thanks again for all your insight. My two choices are The babylock, don't know which one yet, or the Singer.

Susie,
I got the machine up in NJ at my old dealers, he sold it to me for $4900 and gave me the Designers Gallery software and a bunch of feet that I had ordered for my Evolve serger. Our local dealer was a friend of mine but unfortunatly she closed her shop earlier this year so I went out of town to buy, I just found out this week that a new dealer is opening here in the next month or so. Fortunately the machine has been very simple to learn and I've been having a good time with it so I don't think not having the dealer where I got it close to me won't be too bad. Have you looked at the Ellageo3? Many dealers have dropped their prices on them since the new one came out, they are not being discontinued and will continue to be supported by the company, I really liked the Ellageo too and like I said I think I would have been just as happy getting one of them. Hope this helps. PS, I am at my house in Louisiana now.....Lafayette

Thanks Mattie, No I'm not really sold on the other machines. I'm like your husband, I like to get the most for my money, I love my Janome but it only sews a 3.50 by 4.25 inch embroidery area. Now I'd like to get a machine that sews a bigger field and I also like to do table clothes and such and with the singer's cont hoop I can do that without too much trouble. I've been seeing the commercial on TV about Adult ADD and I really think after all these years I've come to the conclusion I may have that problem. I have to stay focused and if I get side tracked I never finish the first thing I started. So I have to get a simple machine that will let me do what I have to do without having to concentrate or off I will go. That's my problem with picking designs for my project. I see so many and it takes me so long to pick out a design I get frustrated :nc: and it takes forever to get finished.
Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know in a few weeks what machine I decide on.

Susie, we sound like twins, I too am finding harder and harder to keep my brain on one thing as I get older, guess thats why I like the new machine as much as I do...it's not as complicated as the Pfaff 7570 that I have for the past 9 years and still haven't learned. I was just reading on the sewingworld board where a woman found the machine I just got for $1000 less, she must be in Fla as she was saying they were cleaning up after the hurricaine, if she found the Ellegante for that price she got some great buy. Let me know which machine you decide on or if I can answer any more questions. BTW I can do border designs on my machine too, it also allows me to do a lot of editing od designs without software right on the machine screen itself.

 I think it's the age thing. LOL I'm going to try the Ellegante before I buy anything. The dealer that I spoke about sells Singer and Babylock. My hubby asked today with reservation LOL Is this the last machine you are going to have to get for a while. My Janome is only 2 years old and I told him I'm keeping it and buying the new one. Designs aren't the only addictive thing. Seems everyone has at least 2 machines in their household or more. I have a Euro Pro serger and mechanical zigzag, a Singer mechanical (old one) plus I have my Mom's that is around 40 years old, and now I want the new one and a new Serger that has a cover stitch. I sew garments as well as Home Dec and embleshish ready to wear so I need all of them. Now to convince my hubby I need more space!!!! He working on it, my little angel.

Thanks for the help I'll let you know what I get.

Susie,
If your are going to go check out the Babylock then do yourself a big favor and also check out the Evolve serger or their cover stitch machine while you are there. I have a mid-line Pfaff serger that made me nuts and also made me hate serging, I bought the Imagine by mail order about 4-5 years ago and had never even seen one (someone on one of these boards reccomended it) I LOVE that machine, it has literally gotten more use than any other machine I have, when I wanted a serger with cover stitch I wanted to go look at the Elna 945 and Vikings 936 because everybody was raving about them, hubby and I stopped at the dealers in NJ for me to get some thread while we were up there on vacation and I asked him to tell me about those two machines and he told me to go with the Evolve because of how happy I was with the Imagine, he let me play with them all and he was right, within a few minutes I was tired of threading the others and was attached to the Evolve. While you are checking out the Elegante also check out the Ellageo 3, my girlfriend has it and loves how easy that one is to use too. I know more about my new machine already than I do about my old Pfaff.
I know what you are saying about your hubby, mine too feels like he lives in a sewing shop, either that or a cookware shop (I work as a chef and have lots of equiptment here at home) I lost count of how many machines I actually have but it must be close to 10 or so counting the old tredle and the hand cranks and the featherwaits and then the 3 sergers, he just wishes I would get to use them more.

Mattie, Oh my we must be twins. I love to cook and have all the gadgets to prove it. I don't know what I'd do without my kitchenaid mixer with the pasta attachment and the grinder. I thought I was the only crazy person who collected pots and actually got excited over buying them. I haven't made any good things lately I'm trying to stay on Weight Watchers but Thanksgiving is coming and I'll pull out all the stops. Susie,
I think it is a disease that we people who sew have, collecting kitchen stuff too......maybe it appeals to our want of things being the way they used to be or what we wanted them to be at least. No one in my family ever sewed or cooked yet those are the things I have always gravitated too. My kitchen is well equipted with a Hobart stand mixer, dimension 2000 dough mixer, several food processors and manual and electric pasta rollers, add in the 100 or so pots (copper, caphlon, all clad and Macys) and you can understand why hubby gets so overwhelmed with my collections. We have a small house so it very cramped around here. He does however appreciate the cooking I do. Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year, I pull out all the stops and cook for app 50 people, usually 3 main dishes and then all the veggies and I bake all the breads and rolls and a few cheesecakes and choclate truffle cake, we have a great day with everyone but I am exhausted by the end of it all, this year we may only have it for the immediate family and kind of take it easy.

Wow ladies..count me in on loving the kitchen stuff and cooking too. I just bought a Kitchenaid mixer with a friend for my daughter and I also bought myself a new mixer and some matching kitchenaid tools. It is dark red and very holiday looking. Now I am trying to find reasons to bake and use it. I have been using it almost daily. I thought I would make some bread with it but I also love my bread machine. This is also my favorite time of year..especially to cook and sew. I like to cook and sew more when it is raining and it is raining tonight. For the holidays I have to be well on my way in the gift dept. by this time because I have so many babies to give gifts to in my family. I also live in a small place and there is no more room for all this stuff. 3 machines and 3 sergers and a stand alone embroidery machine. To think of parting with any of them is difficult. I never thought I would end up with so many (machines or babies ) LOL. I am very blessed.

I'm busy making wine bags for the next few days. I'm embroidering designs from the new Elegante machine on black velvet, first time trying to embroider on velet....kind of tricky. The designs I am using are the built in grapes and are really beautiful,I also want to try the large tree they have in the machine. The bags will be lined with gold lame so that when the top is cuffed the lame will make a cuff, I finished the first one and it came out nice so now I will cut out a bunch and do a mini production lune for myself, as the Elegante is doing it's embroidering I'll assemble the bags with my serger. We are to have a new grandbaby in May so as soon as they let us know if a boy or girl I'll get started on some baby thngs. Hubbys favorite brother is coming next week for a few days so we need to get the guest room set up for him and that means I'll finally get the sewing room done because the guest room right now is filled with sewing stuff in boxes and the sewing room is filled with the new sewing cabinets still in boxes that will finally get assembled, I'm so happy!!!!!! wish he had come sooner then I would have been in my sewing room already instead of trying to sew anywhere I can find some space to set up a machine, Well back to the bags......have a great week

We have a 12 year old grand daughter and 2 1/2 year old grandson in upstate NY and a 3 year old grandson here in Louisiana and he is the one going to have a new brother or sister in May, we're all waiting to find out if baby will be boy or girl, I think I am the only one pulling for a boy tho, everybody wants girls in the family since I had all boys. It will be nice to sew for a little one again, I did make all my boys clothes until they were 5-6 and then they decided they wanted to go shopping with their little friends so I've only been doing home dec things for quite a few years with an occasional dress here and there for the grand daughter and some nieces.

Hey Mattie we just had a new Grandbaby Girl in Sept and now we are having another one in Feb. Will find out what the sex is of that one this Friday hopefully. I need to get started sewing for that one, the shower is in January and I need to get Christmas out the way first. I made lots of cute things for the little girl, all the Grandkids were 10 or older before these two so that was a long wait for me to be able to sew for a baby again. That's okay I'll take all they can dish out.........after all when I'm done playing with them I can ship them off to Mama. :dave:

Susie,
We only have one little guy near us here in Lafayette and they are moving to Houma the last week of Dec so he won't be spending Friday nights with us anymore......I'll miss him something awful, he really brightens our lives. I've been embroidering little T-shirts for him with designs that he picks out, his mom says good thing I've made him a bunch because he refuses to take them off unless he has another he can put on right away, he says he wants a little sister and I told him I want another little boy so he told his mom and my son they need to "go buy 2 babies" when they save up enough to go to the hospital to buy a baby, don't know where he got that from but he tells everyone now they are going to go buy babies. I just got in from work and need to go get dinner started so I'll be back later...........

The more I use this machine the more I love it, I spent the weekend making 75 fleece hats to donate to the shelter and the machine didn't make a peep or heat up the way my Pfaff 7570 always did. I love how simple it is to use and the nice stitching it does no matter what I am sewing. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Hey Mattie,

My Janome is in the shop again. I love my machine but I am going to get that singer Xl 6000. I love the way it positions the designs for you even if you hoop it crocket it comes out straight. You tell the machine where your X axis and Y axis is and it does the rest for you. Great. It has a continuous bobbin where you never have to wind bobbins for embroidery. It also has a border hoop where all you do is pull your fabric threw the hoop again and again and you have a continuous row of stitches all the way around the rim of say pillow cases for example. It also sews great but my Janome does that and the price is not bad either. The sewing field is 18 X 13 mulitple hooping but with the X and Y thing I just explained it's easy to do with out thinking too much. That's what sold me on this machine. I'd love to get the one you have but my finances aren't ready for that much of a machine.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving, did you have any gumbo? LOL We did of course and stuffed melitons along with lots of other goodies from S. Louisiana. I have to weigh in tomorrow I better be good. LOL

Susie,
We had a very quiet nice thanksgiving with just hubby, me 2 sons, daughter in law and the little grandson and I have to admit I was well relaxed after the day was over. Usually I cook for at least 50-75 and although I really enjoy it I am exhausted at the end of the day, other than hubby it is normal for no body to lend a hand with the clean up after the meal and of course plastic dinner ware is out of the question for them to use, I have bought the expensive throw away stuff and yet they still go in the cabinets and take out the china to use, their logic is they are having a great meal and they don't want to feel like they are on a picnic so this year they all had to feed themselves elsewhere and we just relaxed. I also cut way down on the food this year.....the normal dinner is lasagna, turkey and all the trimmings, and either a pork roast or a prime rib roast and then every immaginable fresh veggie I can get my hands on, I also bake all the bread and desserts for the meal.......this time we had just the turkey and trimmings and a few pies and rolls that I baked.......it was nice, quiet and the clean up was a breeze and the next day we weren't dragging. I think we will have a quiet Christmas too as thanksgiving was so relaxing. I was so rested after the day I actually went to JoAnnes at 6 the next morning for the big sale and bought a ton of fleece remnants to make kids winter hats that I donate for those who need them, I spent the rest of the weekend sewing them up and had fun for myself. Grandson stayed over his usual Friday night and we made him some fleece drawstring pants and he is so proud of them and that he helped nana do them!! We put the tree up that night and he just loves all the lights, tomorrow night he will come over and we will do the outside of the house decorations. So when are you getting your new machine? I am having such fun with mine, more fun than I ever had with my Pfaff 7570.

Hey Mattie, Sounds like you had a nice Thanksgiving. I just feel like it's Thanksgiving without all the food but you are right about cutting back a little. I did the same thing this year. My ex-DIL that usually helps with cooking went to Ohio this year with a friend and I did it all myself with a little help from a younger DIL. I guess you might be like me, if I have to tell you each step of how to do something I'd rather do it myself.

The machine is suppose to be coming this week. It had a slight hang up somewhere down the line but it's coming for sure soon. At least that's what they tell me. I'm not upset about it being late, so is my check I'm waiting on to pay for it. It's been mailed since Wednesday this week so maybe they'll both arrive on the same day. That would be nice.

I'm working on sweatshirts for all the kids and grown kids and purses and hats for the boys and girls on my list. I have to do all of it now because I have to start working on baby things I have a shower the middle of next month and I have to do lots of stuff for the baby. The same things I made for the one born in Sept. UGHHHHHHH it's going to be fun. LOL It's a girl so I know just what to make. PINK!!!! LOL Well let me go I have to get back to the grinding stone. That Ellegante is a beautiful machine. I saw it demo'ed yesterday while at the store. Beautiful!!!!!

Susie,
We never did get to do the outside decs today as the weather was miserable down here so it is on hold for tomorrow night. We just got back from Wall Mart and I just popped a pork roast in the oven for dinner, I also picked up one of the frozen crown pork roasts to go along with the turkey breast we will have for Christmas dinner. I picked up some new patterns yesterday at the JoAnnes 2 for $2 sale, DIL is excited because I am going to make their little dog a new coat with her name on it and then make the matching shirt for grandson with his name, I still have so much of those fleece remnants left over from the hat sewing to make a ton of stuff so I figured the little guy will enjoy him and his puppy having matching outfits, after I finish them I will make more hats and scarves so I can ship them all out to the social service agency where I used to work, they really have a need as it is bitterly cold up there and often has lots of snow. Then we have to get the son and family up in NY the rest of their gifts and ship them out by the middle of the week so they get there in time, I wish there was a way for all the boys and their families to come for Christmas one year but both of the married 2 have in laws that demand their daughters be at their house for the holidays so we kind of fall by the wayside in the equation, it has been over 12 years now since my 3 boys have been together at one time. O well time to get the rest of dinner ready and have a nice quiet night..........

Wow that sounds great, a pork roast. I just found a trojan virus on my computer someone sent me a beautiful screen saver to download and the virus was attached. I just 0rdered a new virus program as the free one I have says it's got the virus but can't get rid of it for me. Rats!!!!! Now what do I do. I just ordered McAlfee.

It's suppose to rain here almost all week, Mattie. You're not far from me are you? Lafayette? I'm coming down there week after next my nephew graduates with his BA in Computer Antimation, (some kind of Liberal Arts I think). Anyway we are very proud of him. Shurrrrr it's a surprise he doesn't know it but I think all his aunts are coming to see him.

Well it's off to sew again. Talk to you later.

Susie, if the graduation is at UL I will be there too.....our DIL is graduating on the 18th and we are supposed to be there.....hopefully we can get off work for it, but it is one of the busiest days in the shop/ If we can't take the whole day off maybe we can scoot over for just her part of the ceremony. They are having a little get together at her parents that afternoon and I just remembered I had told her I would make some stuff for them to serve, time to figure out some simple finger foods!!!!! I hope the weather will clear up for the day, she has worked so hard to get her teaching degree and is doing her student teaching right now, along with it all she worked full time and takes care of the grandson (and son), keeps and immaculate home and went to class full time, and is pregnant with second grandchild, I honestly don't know how she did it all but the stress of it is starting to show and I worry about her. Her hubby (our youngest son) has been on the road with his jobs for weeks at a time for the past 6 months so she has to handle just about everything by herself. We try to help all we can but she never wants to ask as her family doesn't believe in helping and they see it as a shortcoming to not be independant and they are constantly lecturing her. If hubby and I had had a daughter we couldn't have ever dreamed of having one as great as we feel she is.

Yes he will graduate on the 18th also. That's wonderful she is really a special person. I have the three boys also but now have 5 Granddaughters or soon will have in Feb the baby due is a girl also. Just two Grandsons. Those girls sure are different then raising boys.

I guess we'll go out to eat after the ceremonies. No one lives up there except him, so I guess we'll go up that morning and then come home that evening. Nice ride. I'll get to catch up on my sisterly talking. My sis is riding down there with us. I don't get to see her that often she lives about 35 miles north of me.

I captured that trojan horse that got on my puter this evening and did it in with the virus software. Don't download a file that is a screen saver with a winter scene and snow. It has a virus attached.

Susie,
Thanks for the warning about the virus but I never open anything.....to scared that if something gets messed up on the computer I will never be able to get it fixed. In this case I guess ignorance is bliss, I've never had any virus's or problems, then again there is so much a computer is able to do that I will never learn due to the fear of getting one of those virus's. If you need recomendations for somewhere to go eat locally let me know.

I'll keep you in mind. Craig use to work at a restaurant there in Lafayette so I guess he'll know too. But thanks for the offer. My SIL is kind of picky when it comes to food so we'll have to go where she will go. Something Italian probably. Or seafood. I'll let you know where we go when I get home. LOL

Susie,
You haven't posted in a few days so I figure you are busy playing with your new machine...............so how is it? Do you love it now that you have it? Hope so!! Tomorrow is the graduation so I guess you'll be on the road down here, we'll be there for the ceremony but I don't know what we are going to do after it.......we are kind of down in the dumps this week.......hubby was let go at his job this week after 12 years and they even refused to give him a reason, these people have been like family to us and even spend holidays at my place (they are the crowd I told you I cook for at Thanksgiving), our son and DIL are upset too and it is putting a damper on her graduation because we used almost all our savings helping them out so she could finish school, and she is pregnant with their second child now so she won't be able to work for long if she even gets a position when she gets her degree tomorrow. Well have fun here in town tomorrow and let me know how you like your enw machine. mattie

Hey Mattie,

I'm on my way to the bed right now So I can get up for 5:00AM it's now 11:30PM and I'm wide awake. His graduation is for 12:00 noon. I didn't know when your DIL's was for they have several tomorrow from what I understand. I will pick up my sister in Slidell and head that way around 7:00AM. I'm told it takes around 3 hours to get there from here. I still have plenty of things to finish before Christmas and sewing anything tomorrow is shot with having to travel to the granduation. For the last two weeks I have been burning the candle at both ends. I have been up till 3:00AM and then getting back up to take the kids to school for 7:AM every morning with it being cold they can't walk or at least I won't let them walk when it's this cold. Any way that's why I haven't been on the boards lately. I'm like the donut guy, I'm meeting myself coming and going.

I'll be back on maybe by Monday. I only have a few sweats to finish and a few purses. By then I can go to the grocery and finish up the Christmas shopping. I'll make it.............I always do. LOL

By the way I love the new machine. It's GREAT!!!!!!! The stitching is wonderful. I'm hooked. My poor Janome is sitting there crying. LOL Nite

Susie,
DIL is graduating at 12 noon tomorrow too, so we will be at the same ceremony. Her name is Mandy and we'll probably break out hollering when they call her up there so just watch out for a bunch of wild people one of which is a man with very gray hair, and a real tall reddish haired young man (he'll probably be holding their son a little blonde cutie) and you'll have found us. I already know what you look like from your picture here so I'll keep my eye out for you and we can say hi. :bg:

Sounds great. I'll be with my brother and SIL, her Mother and my sister. My Brother is gray headed and everyone thinks he's very good looking and looks like Richard Dryfus. My sister in law has dark brown hair and so does my sister and me. Shurrrrr only our hair dressers know for sure. LOL I'll keep my eyes opened for you. My SIL seems to think it will be only about 100 Grands for the 12:00 ceremony I hope she is right. My Nephew's name is Craig Dauterive. His major is in animation. See ya tomorrow hopefully.

Mattie the ceremony was quite emotional for me. He is the first one to Graduate from college in the family. Is your DIL's name Mandy? I had the program and saw her name if that's her. I looked for the gray headed man, the baby and pregnant women after the ceremony and didn't find them. LOL My poor sister fell as we were walking across the parking lot right on her face. She's okay..............she got up and continued on but I know she will be sore tomorrow. We wound up eating at Chili's we had 15 people and my Brother insisted on paying for every one so that's where they took us. It was nice. My diet went to *#LL but tomorrow is another day. LOL I'm going to bed now early. It's only 9:00PM but I've been on the road all day I'm bushed. Talk to you tomorrow. Hugs

Susie,
Yes her name is Mandy Elena Gonzalez Mc..... I did see your nephews name in the program but didn't hear them call his name so the ceremony you were at might have been upstairs. I had hubby looking thru the crowd for anyone who looked like your picture on this site but no luck. We fought the traffic to get back to our house right next to the mall to get her gift then went over to her parents for a bit, then we came home and hubby got called out for duty tonight with the marshalls so I've been home making focaccia and cheesecakes tonight. I usually wait up for him to come in but I think I am tired enough to go to sleep in a few minutes. Will talk to you soon......

Hey Mattie, Yes the ceremony for him was upstairs. It was really nice. I kept a program for a keep sake. I really like Lafayette. That's the first time I've been in the town itself. Usually just skirt by on the Interstate, I would have loved to have stayed over and seen more of it, my sister was itching to go to St. Martinville, that's where our family orginated, my last name was Dauterive and Bernard Dauterive was a land barron in the 1700's before the Arcadians came from Canada. But I didn't like the idea of driving at night so we left after we ate. I didn't get home until after 7:00PM as it was.

I'm still sewing up a storm. I will be until Friday probably. LOL Nah just feels like it.

Susie,
Lafayette can be a nice town but coming from NYC it is inconvienient to me, I hate driving and you have to drive here or else. The town has grown a lot since we moved here in 81, back then most of the streets were 2 lanes and now they are 5 and still too conjested, they are always widening the streets. DIL's ceremony was down to the left as you entered the building, we got there just as it was starting and left as soon as we saw her after it, we came home for a little while then went out to her parents to give her her gift from us (a pair of antique diamond earrings) that she loved. She even got better news after the ceremony, seems she has already gotten accepted in a teaching position where they are re-locating to, so they are driving there tomorrow and the little one is staying with his paw-paw and me for today, tomorrow and Tuesday. We are having a blast with him and spent the day running all around town then he helped me make dinner. By Tiesday I'll need a rest for sure, I don't know where they get so much energy.

Susie, how is your new machine doing? Is it everything you hoped it would be, I have seen some of the embroidery that the XL6000 does and it was very nice. I am still loving my Ellegante, but there isn't enough time for me to use it as much as I would like. Drop me a line when you have a few minutes.

Hey Mattie, I'm still here and loving it. Yes it is everything I thought it would be and more. I love it. My Janome is still in the shop, every time I call up about it they tell me they are waiting on the big man to look at it and he's been sick. The sad part about it is I don't even miss it. I really could use it now because I'm sewing up a storm for the new baby which the shower is next Saturday so I have a week to get my act together and finish all the projects i've started. The biggest thing is still to come another memory quilt. I hve all the grandparent pics printed out on the fabric sheets but now I have to applique them on the center piece embroidery the angels and then do the blocks. I'll do it I did the last one is 3 days. All day but I did it. I have 7 days so I'll get it done. LOL

I want to get this done so I can sew for me. I need more tops. If the weather stay like it is I'm going to need more shorts soon. LOL Nah it's suppose to get cold Sunday and be very windy here.

I bet you like your new machine. It cuts the jump stitches. LOL The lady at my sewing Center has one and she brags on that thing all the time. I love my Singer. They are having another sewing conference here in Oct again won't you try and go. I'll be there, but I think this time I might work it. Some ladies at our sewing guild worked it last time and they always ask for volunteers I might just do that this time it sounds like fun to help out. www.handsonsewingschool.com check it out. If you come we can meet finally and have dinner together, it's a nice Hotel, the Airport Hilton, with a nice restaurant and lounge. We can cut up a little when we break. Let me know if you can come.

I have to get............ I have to get up early and head to Wally World. I need some trim to finish a few things and I have to go make groceries early. Keep in touch. Hugs Susie

Hi Susie,
Sorry I haven't been around for a while, for some reason I couldn't seem to get logged in here then tonight I tried again and it let me back in....don't know whats going on with that.
I haven't had a lot of time to use my new machine but also have another new one now....I picked up the little Brother SE270D for my grand daughter but still have it here at the house, she's not sure she is interested in sewing all that much. If she doesn't want it thats fine as it is such a small and lightweight machine I can take it with me on the road when I travel. I was surprised at how nice the little machine sews and embroiders, for what it costs compared to my big ones it is nice to have a light weight one I can lift on my own without having to wait for hubby to come help me.
We were supposed to be up in NC with my sister this past week and she always has some project waiting for me (usually tons of curtains) when ever we get together so I figured I would take the little machine with me but then we decided not to take the ride up there.
My girlfriend from NYC may come down for the conference in Novenber because she hasn't been down to visit in a few years and we would both like to go to it so I will keep you posted on it as we figure out if we will go.
Our new grandchild is due in a few weeks so I guess things will be getting a little hectic around here, also oldest son and his family may be coming to visit for a few weeks soon so we have to get ready for that. We just got used to having the house to ourselves since the last son moved last month and it seems like they are all coming back !!!!! They'll have to double up tho cause they are not taking over my sewing space ever again!!
Drop me a line when you have a few minutes..........
