I hope this is the right forum for this question. I just registered here and this is my first post.

I am looking for someone to teach me to sew.I have my own machine and I'm ready to try sewing clothes, having almost finished a relatively simple sofa slipcover, and doing several quilts, and a couple of wraparound skirts.

I would never have imagined it would be so hard to find someone to teach me here. If all else fails, I guess I'll go to one of the sewing centers, but I would really rather do something more one on one so I can choose the projects rather than making something I don't need or want.

Can anyone here help me or suggest anyone who might?

Thanks in advance!

~kim

If you will look back on the home page , there are sewing lessons on this site.. they start out with very simple articles and go from there.. This site has it all.. Just go and read those lessons and choose what you want to make first..The instructors cannot be beat.. And...anytime you hit a snag, there is someone here who will answer your questions and help find solutions to problems..
Check the lessons out...  By the way, Welcome to the site.. Go to the home page and look on the left side under places to be @ swn and click on 'sewing lessons'...You'll be glad you did..

If you're one of the hands on learning types, I suggest that you contact your local American Sewing Guild chapter as they can provide you with a list of folks who teach sewing. Go to www.asg.org then find the link for chapter info and scroll down to your state. It will list the chapters. Many have websites and email addresses for you to contact.

However, the sewing lessons posted on this site are great. You cannot go wrong either way. Happy Stitching!

But really, many of the sewing supply stores give lessons such as Joann's and Hancock's and I know you at least have a Joann's because if we have one here in Roseburg, Oregon, you have one. Also, is your machine is new, many of the manufacturers/dealers offer free lessons with the purchase of your machine. Try those routes! Good luck and good sewing! Laura D.

If all else fails there is a fabric store called Mills End. and they offer sewing classes. It's on Mcloughlin Blvd in Milwaukie Oregon. Just a thought :re:
