I have a dress that is a size 8, but I need to take it down to be a size 4. I'm not quite sure how to do DRESS alterations. I've done shirt alterations by just making a new seam down the sides of the shirt, but it wouldn't work for the dress because the skirt part would look funny. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

Hi Guthrieme, welcome to Sew Whats New. :bluesmile

I am not sure that you can reduce your dress by that much but if you can describe the dress a little it can help us decide.

It's a turtle neck, sleeveless polyester dress with a zipper down the back. It has darts in the front and connects to the skirt part about mid-waist. The skirt is pleated and comes down to right above the knee.

Could I perhaps bring the darts in a little to make it fit? It's actually a little bit smaller than an 8. It may even be a 6. I bought it at the thrift store and it was marked as an 8, but they were probably just guessing. I'm a size 4 and it's only a little wide on me.

Let me know if you need any more info.
