hello everyone.

i have never sewn anything/or made anything before, but recently i had the idea that i would quite like to make my own denim jeans...like a pair of levis or something, except homemade....

as i mentioned i have never made anything except a small lady bird pin cushion about 10 years ago, (but that was because my school made me!) so all i have to help me is my own cunning, and a large+ very very old Singer sewing machine in basement (its really big, made of wood+iron or metal, and has a giant wheel at the side+ a foot pedal)

Is this something i can do? or is it too hard to make denim jeans?

i had quick look round web, but couldnt see anything about it....

any hints/tips/ideas ?

thanks.

It's not that you can't make the jeans, it is not exactly a beginner project. If you start with too much too fast, you may loose your interest because of a bad experience. You might want to start with a pair of easier pants first...maybe some pj bottoms or some pull on pants or some boxer shorts, just anything to get your feet wet first. Then you might like to get into something that requires more fitting and move toward the jeans idea.

Pj bottoms and boxer shorts are my teens' favorite things. I think you'll enjoy sewing them!

Oh yes the boxers are all the rage here. I made my DIL a few pairs last year and she still wears them to sleep in and loves them more that the store bought ones because she choose the fabric. Good Luck. Let us know how you do.
