I am looking for the directions for making a pullover robe from three bath towels. I made this robe many years ago and am now wishing I had saved the pattern, maybe I did, but it is certainly well hidden. Does anyone out there have any idea what I am talking about? Cynret

Sure, I made several of those.. Here are the directions..
3 towels
1 for front and 1 for back (each begins at bottom of yoke)
front and back top is 1 towel folded in half lengthwise--with neck
cut out and bound.. the other 2 towels are gathered onto the middle of this one to make the long front and back --
sew underarm seams on neckline towel..
sew side seams on front and back towels... leaving seams open near the bottom as needed for walking ease.
(note, I have short arms , so I always had to cut off the ends of the towel used for the top piece.)
I have not thought of those in years...:bg: :bg:

Hey Libby, you wouldn't happen to have any pics of these robes would you? They sound neat, and I work much better having a visual to pull from :bg:

No picture , but you can make your own visual.. take a towel, lay it out flat... let that be the straight up and down part of the letter T... Take another towel, fold it in half the long way, and put it across the other one to be the top bar of the letter T.. Have the fold on the very top.. Now right in the middle of that fold you cut a neckline.. The part sticking out on either end are your sleeves, and the flat towel opened all the way out is either the front or back.. .. Now, that should be just as good as a picture..:bg: :bg:

That brings back some memories... I HAD one of those years ago, and loved it! Mine had a zipper down the front so it could be stepped into, rather than pulled over the head. You have just given me an idea for Christmas gifts for DDs and DDILs. Thanks! An embroidered monogram would really make it special.

Mine had a zipper in the back...mine was pink and my sisters was blue. Mom got the towels as bonuses purchases at the local grocery store, made them and gave them to us for Christmas! I wore that thing from the time I was 12 until after I was married at 21. It was warm and comfortable!

Libby, that is the pattern I am looking for. Thanks so much! I am headed out to hit the sales and hopefully I will find three matching towels. Cynret

I had one of these too, but mine was for putting on over my swimsuit at the lake. I made it with a heavy brass separating zipper. The towel used for the yoke was a smaller size towel - the sleeves were just about where the elbow bends and the towels all had fringe, so the bottom of the robe and sleeves were fringed. I also made it shorter (above the knee since it was for over my bathing suit)! I loved that thing!!! It wore like iron, too!! :bg:
