How many of you out there have become closet Nascar watchers? What is it that has hooked you into the sport, the action or "the drivers"? Are you a bigger fan than your other half? Have you been to any of the races? ( lucky you if you have been!!!)

My boys have me hooked. If I want to be in the room when Nascar is on I have to watch it & no sunday dinners until it is over unless you eat in the living room. I'm glad this weeks is today because we have a family reunion tommorrow & I don't want to hear about missing the race.
My son (15) went to the Michigan race in June with his uncle. It was his reward for doing good in school for his first 2 years of high school my sister gave up her ticket for him to go. It is something he will remember for a long time.

Hi, Yes I am a Nascar Fan. My hubby and friends just came back from MIS and he left on Thursday for Bristol. October is Martinsville. So 5 races in one year I guess you could say we are fans. We also own a Nascar Diecast and Collectible store as well. Even as I type this the Sharpie 500 just started. I think you'll find alot of fans out there.

I 'used' to be a big fan.....My fav driver was Bobby Allison...then he died...Then it was Alan Kulwicki..then he died...I went on to Ernie Irvan, then he almost died, so I quit having fav drivers and watching so much....I watch once-in-awhile now, and root for Rusty Wallace or Mark Martin..(or maybe even Bill Elliot...) But I always hope Jeff Gordon will NEVER win....can't stand that man.... :bg:

Chrysantha,
You feel about Gordon the way I feel about Stewart!!!!
My nephew used to work for Petty Interprises, but he and about 60 other guys got laid off about two years ago. He was approched by some other teams to join them but decided that life on the road was not for him since he was newly married for almost a year, and them found out on his B'day lasr March, that he was going to be a "daddy". Fatherhood suits him just fine, he is great with his little girl. What is funny about it is, my nephews wife with went to school with Stewart in Columbus Indiana. When we went to their wedding there, the city has signs all over the place " Home of Nascars Tony Stewart". Some of them had been spay painted with graffitti by some locals. Pretty bad when your hometown doesn't like you, some of them at least.
Kyle just can't cut it like "King Richard" did. Plus, they say that his heart just is not in it since his son died from the accident he had at New Hampshire four or five years ago.
I think I heard last season that Petty joined forces with another group to help out both businesses keep going in the sport.

JR JUST WON THE RACE!!!!!! :dave: :bg:

Hi, I waws so happy last night when Jr. won. keeps him in the top 10 for the race for the chase. My hubby should be home from Bristol tonight.
I also do not like Tony or Jeff at all. Another fave of mine is Mikey Waltrip. I love to watch him and Kenny and Johnny on inside Nextel on Mondays. My girls and I really enjoyed watching the race last night on the tube. Poor Mark though. That has been two weeks of having a good car and not good luck in the pits. Hopefully his luck will change like Jrs did. Keep on watching Nascar.

One thing I really don't like is NBC's coverage of the races. I would rather watch it on FOX all year, I love it when Darrell starts out the races with his"

Count me in as a race fan too. In fact, my husband and I met at a local Saturday night racetrack. I've always been a Petty fan but Kyle just hasn't been able to put a winning car on the track. I agree, he lost it when Adam was killed. Michael Waltrip has been my favorite for quite awhile now. I don't mind Junior but didn't root for his dad at all. Don't like Tony Stewart either. Jeff's ok. I hear Rusty Wallace is suppose to be announcing his retirement soon and next year will be his farewell tour. Hubby took me to MIS to see Richard Petty race in his last race there on his farewell tour. That's the only Nascar race I've been to but we watch them on TV and love Mikey's show (as I call it) on Monday nights. A friend of ours went to MIS last week end and it took them over 5 hours to get out of the parking lot. It hasn't improved any since we were there!
I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

almost afraid to answer this one i only started watching the races because my brother knows him and his one son attended school with tony and they are friends. so my mom and i watch to see where he's at in the races. when i was younger and lived in south carolina i went to stock car races and rember some of the drivers then like petty. my son has started to race but they or he drives a porsh. now don't throw tomatoes at me.

Parking still hasn't changed at MIS. Everytime you go and think you have it all timed out to get out of there with little problem then they change everything. We usually like to park in the back and get out really quickly. Which usually means someone (me) has to leave at least 10-20 laps to go to get down to the vehicle and get it started. I do like the bus trips though, no driving hassles and you tend to park closer.
I'm looking forward to going to Martinsville in October. I really like going to see the races in person. I also agree FOX has the best show for the races. They actually have their own trailer selling their t-shirts and hats now.
We have to tracks close to us, one is an oval and the other is a dragway. A couple of years ago Ken, Tony, Johnny and Matt came up here to race.

I live about 45 minutes away from NHIS, but I've never been to a race. I used to work for the State of New Hampshire, and my department was responsible for adjusting the traffic patterns when the races were done to try to alleviate some of the problems. Maybe that's why I never went to a race, because I was so tired of looking at traffic patterns!

kittykat,
you are welcome here, no matter who you cheer for!!!! How has your son been doing with his racing so far?
I wish I could go to a Nascar race, but as luck would have it the only races that I have been to are the Indy 500. Someday I WILL GO to the Brickyard!!!!!
Spring of '03 my son (18 then) & I went to my brothers in Indy and we took my son to the track. This was his second time there, went first time when he was three so he doesn't remember it. As we were pulling onto the parking lot, you go under the track via a tunnel. They were doing time trials in Andretti's cars for the 500, one goes over the tunnel. OH the sound in there!!!!!! (After we left Mario flipped one of the cars going into turn 1, WE MISSED IT!!!!! :bang: )
My son just look at his uncle and asked "what was that!!!!!!" My brother told him it was one of the race cars, with this we couldn't get into the place fast enough!!!!!!!
The place is "LOUD" with the Indy cars, my brother told me that it's even worse when the Brickyard is there!!!!!! He gets seats on the inside of the front straight just down from the opening of pit row, gets to see alot more action.
