I'm going to go back to work on Monday as the lunch cashier in my DGS's school. I have been a stay at home MOm for over 20 years so it is a little scary but I have volenteered in the school for 5 years so I know most of the staff & students. Now I just have to learn a new job! There are so many rules about how everything is done for Federal money I just hope I don't mess up. Wish me luck I think I'm going to need it at least for the first 2 weeks.

Good Luck Barb but I don't think you'll need it. If you could handle 6 kids for 20 years you can do ANYTHING. Dorothy |

I am also going back to work next week(on Friday). I got a job as a teachers assitant at the local playschool. I have only been off work for a year. But this is totally different from what I was doing before and that last job was such a bad experience I am feeling very nervous. I guess it is just a good excuse for a new adventure. And the nerves are encouraging me to get some sewing done. Sherri My website

I start back to work next Thursday. I am a cafeteria manager for Pittsburgh Public Schools. My previous school has closed, so I am entering a new school this Fall. I am very apprehensive, as I don't know the times, the ladies, the policies etc. I am displacing a manager who was there last year and feel kind of funny asking for her help. We are also incorporating computers and wireless cash registers this year too. Yikes, I have indigestion for sure. I am trying to finish the handquilting on my DGS fishy quilt for Sept 4th birthday party. So, trying to keep busy and very glad to have somewhere to vent. WHEWWWWWWWWWW thanks for listening. Debby

I suvived the first week! Monday my boss came in to work with me & train me. Tues he had to do most of it because I has to go to a meeting for all new employees about blood born disieses, public safety rules, harrassment, etc. Everyone is supposed to have it before they work but since they took so long hiring some of us had to miss a day for it. Wed. I was on my own until lunch was almost done & he came to check on me, said I was doing a great job! I still have to get faster with my paper work. I brought some home to figure out an easier way to do it. They told me I can change the forms any way I need to as long as everything gets done & the forms I have to send in get filled out. So I am going to play with them on the computer for a few hours this weekend to see what I can do. But over all I love the job & I have had many compliments on how much smoother things are going this year. (No yelling at kids by the cashier because parents didn't send money). The new Principle has also set some new rules so kids are accually eating lunch instead of talking. It has been great this week but next week the Kindergarteners stay all day & that is going to be an interesting experiance for them & me.

Well done barb, it is a scarey thing going back to work but the great thing about working in a school is the kids all think you know more than them! (well, the little ones anyway). Confidence will get you a long way - sounds like you are doing fine. I work lunchtimes and in the classroon helping the less able kids and sometimes we are only one step ahead of them, but just being that far ahead gives them the confidence to trust us and feel secure. Keep going! love and kisses, Jan
