I'm working on a rag quilt made from chenille and quilting fabric. I've made several rag quilts with denim or flannel. This is the first chenille one. I found the pattern in a book from the library. I love the look of chenille and had to try it. I have several old chenille bedspreads that aren't fit to use as spreads anymore. I love the idea of recycling them. This one is a mauve and cream colored one. I'm using a burgundy rose print fabric for the alternating squares. I think I'll make pillows to match using the fringe from the bedspread. I wonder if chenille will be even messier than the denim when it's time to toss it in the washing machine. |

I think you might have more 'fuzz' than threads from the chenille...although where it's cut will have some thread loss..

It's finished. There wasn't as big a mess left in my washer and dryer as there is with denim quilts. It was still all stuck to the quilt. It just didn't want to let go like the denim fuzz will. I had to sit and cut all of the strings and fuzz loose after it was dry. I think it needs to go through the washer and dryer one more time. It also made a big mess when I was cutting the chenille squares. I was covered in fuzz balls. (so was the floor) I like the way it turned out though. It's soooo heavy. And it's just a lap quilt. I'd better save this one for winter. I want to make another one some day. The one shown in the book used white chenille and 1930's prints. |

Bama, that chenille/print combo sounds really pretty; and chance you could post a picture? What was the book you used? I just finished a set of denim rag pillows and they came out pretty good. It was an experiment to see how best to include a zipper in the seam, and still have a frayed edge around the perimeter. Haven't done the washer/dryer step yet, just barely finished clipping them last night. |

I'll try to get a picture for you. My camera is screwed up but we're getting my son a new digital camera for his birthday next week. I'll get him to take it. The book is called "Sewing with Vintage Linens" by Samantha McNesby. There's so many good ideas in this book I'd like to buy one for myself. This one belongs to the library. There's projects using all sorts of vintage clothing, linens, and quilts. After looking through this book for hours, I'm planning to go "treasure hunting" at the thrift store this weekend. |

Thanks a lot Bama, you just cost me $15, LOL! I clicked over to Amazon and they have a few used copies for that price, and I snatched one. Would still love to see a pic of your finished product, hope your son will let you use his new camera . Thanks for the reply! |

I'm glad you found the book. Let us know what you make first. I want to make the ottoman from an old dresser drawer and a vintage quilt. Just wait til you see that in the book. |
