anyone know where to find a pattern for making a pencil case with a zipper? i would prefer the cylindrical shape. i went to sewing.about.com and there wasn't one there. free would be nice, but i am also willing to pay.

"sorry no photo" Supplies 10"x 15½" rectangle of 100% cotton fabric print - prewash 10"x 15½" rectangle of medium weight canvas - prewash 14" zipper - matching cotton print fabric scissors thread upholstery thread sewing machine sewing needle iron pencil sewing pins zipper Optional tassel - matching color of cotton print fabric Instructions 1. Read through all of the instructions before starting this project. 2. Iron cotton fabric and canvas so it is smooth from wrinkles. 3. Fold fabric in half lengthwise with RIGHT sides together. Using a ¼" seam allowance, sew zipper lengthwise. Make sure you have a bit of space at the top and bottom of your zipper. Your sewing the back of the zipper to the top of the case so that when you fold the case inside out the zipper is on the right side of the case fabric. Sew the ends of the case and open the zipper to fold right side out. 4. Fold canvas lengthwise WRONG sides together. Using a ¼" seam allowance, sew the ends of the canvas leaving the long end open. Place canvas inside fabric case matching seams together inside. Fold both cases inside out so that sewing will be easier. 5. Fold the long side of the canvas in ¼" and hand sew it to the bottom of the zipper covering the back of it making sure the zipper can still go up and down with ease. After you have hand sewed all the way around fold entire pencil case right side out again. 6. Attach tassel through the hole of the zipper top. Please Note: You can attach appliques or do a quilted pencil case...use your imagination! |
