Please respond here if you can help, thanks. hello, i have been given a very old(80-90)years old quilt.it has real sheeps wool bunched and the material wrapped around that and then sewn onto a backing. how should i look after it? do you know if drycleaning will be ok/ i want to display it on my wall as it is to fragile to use MaryW

Unless it's very soiled, I wouldn't even try cleaning it; certainly not at a commercial dry cleaner. Are you anywhere near a museum that has textiles on display? Those folks are the real experts with stuff like this; cleaning, storing and display. I'd love to see it! |

If the fabric is cotton or anything other than wool, and the batting is wool, it will be very hard to clean. You can carefully vacuum it, with a nylon stocking over the vacuum attachment and very low suction. Getting it to a textile conservator would be the best. You can probably google their association and find someone in your area. |

The one thing I've heard is to definitely do not use a professional dry cleaners on an old quilt! The process will destroy it quickly! |
