I am posting this for someone who has contacted me. If you can help, please post here. Thanks.

Do you know where one can purchase the wooden free motion machine embroidery hoops? I have some that I still use, but wanted to get a few more for a friend who wants to learn free motion machine embroidery. Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked at WalMart, sewing places that sells embroidery supplies, or Hershners? Hershners should have a web site. They do have catalogs. If I find any I'll let you know. Theresa

I've been thinking about this & maybe I'm all wrong here. I have regular machines that are older plus the new computerized machines. I don't use what your calling a machine embroidery hoop. I use a regular wooden hand embroidery hoop. I put the fabric onto the larger ring & fit the smaller ring on. That brings the fabric down lower. Then simply move your hoop for the free motion. Is this what you mean that you are looking for ? A regular wooden embroidery hoop ?

Those wooden hoops can be found just about anywhere. Joann's, Hancocks, Michaels (art/craft supplies) Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby. They're really just reqular hand embroidery hoops that people use with their machines. They come in all sizes from about 2"-48" in diameter.

Thank you all for responding to my inquiry. These hoops are not available in most places, hence my inquiry. The hand embroidery hoops sold in most stores are for hand embroidery only and are not sturdy enough to use on a sewing machine, nor do they hold the fabric tight enough for machine embroidery. Machine embroidery hoops are made of stronger wood and they are thinner to facilitate getting under the machine needle. I can purchase hand embroidery hoops most any place. With the advent of home embroidery machines, many places don't sell the hoops anymore because not many ladies are doing free-motion machine embroidery. Only specialty shops carry them now. My question was if anyone knew of a specialty shop that carried them. However, I did manage to find a shop in California called 'Treadleart' that still stocks them. Thank you again, ladies, for your response.
Sincerely,
