Well it looks like Flordia and the East Coast are going to get hit again. I hope that Frances looses her punch before she hits though. I have heard some reports that she could be as big as what Andrew and Hugo where. I hope not.
When Hugo came on shore WE even had storms and very stong winds from him, and I'm in Northeast Ohio!!!!

I will NEVER forget Hugo.. The only hurricane to ever hit Charlotte... I have been scared a lot of times in my 70 years, but not like that night.. It took us months to recover from that.. I hope Frances takes a turn back out to sea before the landfall .. :nervous: :nervous:

As you said " here we go again " I just got everything put back in it's place outside. We didn't get hit here in Naples but was some strong wind. Hit bad close to us & we have been getting supplies & food for the ones hard hit. Hope no one gets it. Theresa :bang:

Keeping an eye out here, too, I have so many friends in FL and along the whole coast. Wow this is an active season.

Well it looks like the Bahamas are going to get hit hard with Frances. I was just in Nassua one year ago, and was ready to go back. Guess that will be put on hold for a while.

:nc: I have supplies in & dh is putting up the hurricane shutters now. We'll leave a couple windows clear untill in the morning so it won't be like night time now. It isn't suppose to be a direct hit at Naples but we'll get strong winds, rain & they think flooding. Sure we'll get damage here. This is the first time we've stayed home but really no where to go. Some of our children & grands will be here also. I'm sure not looking forward to this at all. Hope our 2 huge royal palms don't crash onto the roof or the lake in back doesn't come in the house. Just another hazzard of living in paradise. Theresa :bang: :bang: :bang:

Theresa, be safe but just be glad that you're not on the east coast with this thing coming in. I have family in West Palm that have already evacuated to Tampa; 2 nieces and their families in Fort Pierce are evacuating today to Lake City to their Mom and Dad's; 2 brother and a sister and their families in Orlando are planning on pretty much staying put as their doesn't seem to be any where to go from Orlando. I've been praying all day that this hurricane will turn north and east and just possibly make a small sweep at the east coast line but it doesn't look good right now. As much as I miss South Florida, I'm gald I'm not there this week. :nervous:

I've been watching the Weather Channel and see that Ms. Frances has slowed down which is definitely not what they wanted to see due to the fact that it can rapidly pick up wind speeds when it slows down over the water. They now posted warning from Miami to north of Daytona Beach as well as west across the state. I keep hoping that it will turn northeast before too much longer but it doesn't seem to want to do that. I'm praying for all you guys down there.

Patsy, I don't want anyone in danger, how many in both families ? Would they want to come to Naples & bunk with 5 of us ? We have a CBS home, hurricane shutters, metal roof. Not enough beds but can make pallets on floors. If they could bring some food would be helpful. We are honest decent people. They'd have to leave tonight or early in the morning at latest, you can e me at <email address removed for privacy> or phone me at 239-775-0895. I'll stay up late in case you call. This is important or I wouldn't give my # out over the net. This is to be one H of a hurricane & I want people safe as possible. Theresa

Beachgirl thanks for your offer for my family members. They are all boarded and stocked up and ready to wait it out. They've all been through several of these and are pretty experienced at it. Because of the size of Frances, it's gonna be bad for pretty much most of the state. As of right now, I understand it has weakened a lot and that in West Palm they are getting winds of about 75 miles per hour at the moment along with rain from the first feeder bands coming on shore. The group in WPB are about 15 miles inland from the beach and when they built their new home, hurricane shutters and all the hurricane code stuff mandated by the state after andrew were built in so they're gonna be pretty safe in their house.

Patsy, Thanks for letting me know your family is ready for this. I was so worried. Our home also is up to all the new codes. Sure makes me feel better. I just heard it has turned a little more west now. Sure will be glad when this is over & hope no one gets hurt bad or killed. Good luck to everyone. Let us know how your family got through this. HOLD ON EVERYONE HERE SHE COMES!!!!!!!

Please stay safe and dry and know we will be praying for you to make it through this mess.
I saw pictures of the Bahamas and streets that I have walked around on are one big mess. I don't know how the people there can get through it. The hotels are most likely the safest places to stay since they have more that one floor to stay on.

Just let us know that you are safe ASAP.

Love to All
Sewhappie

P.S. just a side note, the realization of this hit home today while my sister and I where on I-77 in Ohio. We saw a convoy of approx 50-60 Ohio Edison trucks and big rigs heading south. After the blackout of 2003 , thanks to FirstEnergy a Ohio based company,do you guys really want "Ohio" electric companies down there to help? :bg:

LOL, Sewhappie.....I was part of that blackout. Dh got one of the very last generators in town, and we had a phone call within 15 minutes of losing power from a family member in Houston who let us know how widespread it was. He ran to the car to get a generator....and got almost the last one.

Just want to let y'all know, NBC6 in Miami is broadcasting live via the internet. Go to www.virtualtuner.com, click on "new stations" at the top, and click on the first link that comes up - live hurricane coverage. It uses Windows Media Player, and I'm using Mozilla Firefox browser. Been watching continuously since yesterday - I'm the contact person for our homeschool board, for our FL ladies. Three of our friends are right in the worst of it, near Melbourne.
Blessings and prayers for our FL friends.

Hey Allie,
You're laughing!!!!! Heck I live right in one of the Akron suburbs!!!! It was a real mess around here. For some crazy reason one very tiny section of Barberton had power, maybe because we are on the same grid with the police and fire stations????? The rest of the county was total blackout.
Now FristEnergy is still trying to get that mess and why it happened in the first place cleared up, over one year later!!!!!!!
I should have just stayed in the Bahamas instead of coming home the day before (sigh) :bluesad: But then I would be going through that mess they are having now.

Oh my, if you ever go back to the Bahamas, you'd better swing north and pick me up, lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although we should wait til they clean up that mess they're dealing with.

I'm near Detroit, and we were the only people on our block to have a generator - we watched tv coverage and got online every now and then to see what was going on. You had to drive about 2 hours west to find a gas station that was open and had power. We were blessed, we had enough gas to run the generator for 3 days. The worst of it was not having our a/c.....can you imagine what they're going through in FL!

So have they officially released anything on why that blackout happened? I know on the 1yr anniversary here, they were talking about how easily it could happen again. :nervous: I hope it doesn't!

The power grids are to old and where never meant to handle the power that they are having to handle now comparied to 60 some years ago when they where new!!!! They have been patched into so many times that it just makes for weak spots in the grids.
People not watching the meters when they should be, computers givng false readings. They are now going saw crazy here and cutting down trees like they are match sticks, people are very upset with the power company for doing this. Some of these trees are nowhere NEAR the lines, but because they are growing in the easment, DOWN THEY COME!!!!!!! People are suing over this, very tough case to try in courts.
The federal government told us that they would help correct the problems with the power plants, guess what, one year later and not one D$@N has been done by the feds to help out.
I guess they figure that with more than 260,000 jobs now gone from this state alone in the past year, that the demand for power is down and will not cause anymore problems
I'm ready to go back to the Nassau now, I'll clean up the Island!!!! New Providence is only something like 27 miles wide ( east to west) and 17 miles ( north to south). Just hope that is didn't blow the Bacardi Plant away!!!!!!
Paradise Island ( where The Atlantis is) is even smaller!!!! As long as the ocean is there to play in after cleaning up and sweating like crazy, I don't care. Would be very good place to go for dieting!!!! It gets to hot to care if you having anything but water all day :dave:
They are telling us, Cleveland weather, that we could be getting some of the aftermath of Frances by mid week, just what we need!!! Maybe my basement will flood again and I can caught another fish!!!!!

Have you seen these crazy news and weather casters standing out in those winds???? Then they tell everyone else to "stay inside where it's safe!!!!" Well why aren't they????? Do we really need to see someone get seriously hurt on live TV? Is this not something that could not have waited UNTIL AFTER the hurricane went through to see all the damage it did?

Mary, We're fine here in Naples. Still having bands of rain & wind gusts but sure not complaining. Dh has picked up fallen green palm fronds plus fished stuff out of the lake. He has taken some hurricane shutters down but we're leaving some on as we have another hurricane on the way. There is very little gas here in Naples. I have cabin fever so bad. We lost electric for a few hours so were lucky on that score also. Theresa
