I have decided that I want to make Simplicity 5463, the skirt. The instructions on the pattern tissue give the measurments at the hip which are: 10/42" 12/43 1/2" 14/45 1/2" 16/47 1/2" 18/49 1/2" *Total ease above body measurements is approx. 7 1/2". So I have about a 42 1/2" hip, I usually need at least a 14-16 in a size for my hips. Are they telling me there is another 7 1/2 " added on for ease with these measurements? It just really scares me to cut a size 12, any thoughts? Jolene

I can usually use a pattern that is 1 size smaller than what I would buy in ready to wear. Hold the pattern up to your body & see if it looks like it has enough ease. Remember though the paper doesn't give like fabric.

If you add that amount of ease to your hip measurement that puts you between a size 16 - 18.The figure printed on the pattern tissue is usually the measurement at the hip on the finished garment. Skye |

If those are the numbers printed on the front part of the pattern tissue, those are the actual finished measurements for each size using a 5/8" seam. Measure a ready to wear skirt that you have to see what the measurment are across the front and back. Patsy Patsy
