I want to make a fancy T out of some stretch lace (80% nylon, 20% lycra) and I decided to pre-shrink it like interfacing (soak in hot water, then hang). But now I'm wondring if the weight of 2 yds (60" wide) is going to pull it out of shap or if I even needed to preshrink it at all.

Thoughts?

Nylon and lycra don't shrink...they're synthetic...the nylon might stretch from the weight, but the lycra is in there to pull it back...thats what lycra does...

OK, then pls explain why fusible tricot needs to be pre-shrunk? I'm feeling confused.

Thanks,

I've never seen any fusible interfacing that needed to be pre shrunk...tricot or otherwise...

Years ago when synthetic interfacing was new, it would shrink, but I haven't noticed it shrinking for years. I've never had a problem with tricot and I use it a lot. I would be concerned about drying it in the dryer if I washed it and it was not attached to something because I would be afraid the heat from the dryer would effect the glue. It is easy to test any fabric. Cut a perfect 4x4 or 6x6 square and run it through the washer and dryer with your clothes. When it has finished take it out and measure it to see if it has shrunk. The larger the square, the easier to tell if it has changed size.

Sometimes I shrink my iron on interfacing with a puff of steam. I don't know if it matters or not but I read about it somewhere so I tried it and I know it doesn't hurt.
