OK, I'm getting ready to start some actual quilting again after several years off (moving to a different state, different job, different life, LOL!). I have a floor frame, but it's still packed up and in the basement behind more stuff that I want to move in the near future. I thought I'd finish up a few small projects with a lap frame, but I've never used one.

Question for y'all: what are your favorite lap frames/hoops and why? I'd like to order one with a free shipping coupon from Joanne, but will go wherever you guys think the best product is.

Thanks a bunch in advance!

I have used the Q snap frames with good success.

Thanks so much for the reply, Mary!

I just added an 8" & a 17" to my pillow form order. I was so out of the loop, I'd never even seen those before and I'm looking forward to trying them out. Will report back with the product review  .

Quilting maverick here. LOL I usually use a floor frame, but for small wall hanging projects, I lap quilt. I have tried hoops, but find I am happier without one. I roll up the sides, and use my under hand to continually smooth the backing fabric. I don't baste...I HATE that process, but I do put in a few big saftey pins here and there to hold the general placement.

So, I suggest trying a bit of no-hoop quilting to see if it suits you.

Oh, yeah, and I also quilt right to left, (like you hem) or top right corner to bottom left corner. Never could get the hang of quilting toward me.

Well Marti, I may give it a try, but my usual MO is to baste the begeebers out of everything before I stitch, be it a quilt, a zipper, or setting a sleeve, and of course to match plaids.

I'm one of those annoying people who stitch grids on a cross-stitch before starting it too, so I'm probably hopelessly mentally ill :bg: :bluewink:

Gee, I wonder why it takes me so long to finish anything??

I grid the cross stitch fabric for a complicated chart, or a really big one. I Just hate basting quilts.

I don't do a lot of general sewing basting, or even pinning, for that matter. I think my standards may just be a smidge low. LOL As I have gotten older, my personal philosophy has become "Done is better than perfect". The higher my age, the lower my standards.

Anyway, I want to see a pic of your project. I wanna see! I wanna see!
