Hi all,

I'm kinda embarrassed to post this, as a newbie to this forum and a newbie to sewing as well. It's just that my Euro-pro machine, bought at Costco last summer and used several times for hemming pants, won't work now. I was looking forward to learning how to sew this fall, now that I've got a bit of time on my hands.

Last night I got the machine out and threaded it, only to discover it won't sew forward. My first thought was that I had threaded it incorrectly so took the thread out but it didn't matter. Same result. I can move the handwheel backward but if I try to move it forward, it stops when the needle is in the down position. Is this a tension problem? I know so little about sewing and just can't believe I've broken the machine already!

Any advice appreciated!

Best Wishes,
Mo

P.S.

I tried to post this to the Machine site but for some reason couldn't so apologies if this is the wrong forum. :-)

Check you manual. Some machines can ben locked in reverse for certain types of sewing. It may just be that you've accidently pressed a button or gadget on your machine.

Or you might have a piece thread stuck somewhere. Give it a good cleaning especially in the bobbin area and oil it and see if that helps.

Hi Pam and tropicallie

I haven't been able to find any info as to whether the reverse sewing feature can be locked in--all I can find is a manual switch in front--but I'm going to keep looking. Also, there doesn't appear to be any thread stopping up the works, despite my poking and prodding.

I'm going to try again tonight and see if I can uncover the problem. Otherwise, it's probably off to the shop! :-(

When it's me against a machine tho', I always have a sneaking feeling that it's me! *lol*

Really appreciate your taking the time to respond.

Cheers,
Mo

It never fails that when I take my 200 to a sewing class it starts making a strange whirling noise. I never can figure it out (you'd think I'd learn by now). It is always because I accidentally engaged the motor to the spindle that winds my bobbin. (It has a separate motor). I always feel so stupid. It must happen when I pack it in the carrier.

Mo it sounds like you've got a thread jam in the bobbin area under the needle plate. Have you taken the needle plate off (silver plate that covers feed dogs) and check around the bobbin assembly?

Hi again,

Well, I've taken off the foot plate and the bobbin case and the bottom and the sides of the darned machine. I've brushed and wiped with soft cloths and dabbed with machine oil and spoke soft sweet words and NOTHING has worked!

GRRR!

Something has slipped a cog somewhere in there and I can't get at it. If anyone else has any experience like this, PLMK.

Thanks,
Mo

P.S.

Euro-Pro is its own brand, as far as I can tell, Sewhappie. It did look like a nice little machine and this could be something really simple, just not simple enough for me to figure out.

On your flywheel is there another smaller knob inside of it? If there is hold the outer wheel and turn the inner wheel clock-wise and see if it tightens up.
Make sure that your bobbin stem has not been pushed into gear.
Is there a belt visable from the flywheel, if so, tug on it and see if it is snug or not. If it isn't, then you might not be engaging the motor. Sometimes you can just push the belt anchor back and tighten it with a screwdriver.

Hello :) I'm new here and so I apologize if what I say is utterly rediculous (but I honestly did this LOL). Did you check to make sure you are in sewing mode and not bobbin mode? I had this happen to me a few months ago and after looking at my machine for hours and taking nearly the whole thing apart I found that I had forgotten to switch back to sewing mode from the bobbin mode. I couldn't understand why I could sew backward, but not forward!
