Like most sewers, I have a ton of related books; sewing, quilting, cross-stitch, etc., including many by Nancy Zieman. Now, this is possibly indelicate, but I've always wondered about her face. Does anyone here know, is she a stroke or accident victim, or is that asymetrical look just the way she was put together? She sure didn't let it get in the way of being a public figure, but is very careful about camera angles. Just curious .... |

Actually I've always wondered too....I've always thought it was an accident of some sort... It is the result of an ear infection when she was little |

Wow, no kidding, an EAR infection?????? I thought it must be a stroke too, but it sure didn't affect her mind at all. Bless her heart, it sure didn't stand in the way of mega-success for her!!!!!

My goodness, I had no idea an ear infection could cause anything permanent aside from hearing loss! Thanks for that info, Lise. |

I knew ear infections could do a LOT of damage, but I never thought of it... I was in the care of an ENT for the first 9 yrs of my life, you'd think I'd have thought of that first....thank heavens I was spared that due to great medical care as a kid.... Chrys

Wow! I always assumed it was a stroke, and have wondered and wondered. I'm so glad you brought it up -- I wouldn't have the nerve, and I'm glad to know. I think she's sure a successful woman! nancy |

I am not surprised....ear infections are nasty little devils. My eldest son had ear infection after ear infection as an infant, toddler, child. We went through several different medications. When he was seven he started seizing. He was at the time on his 3rd round of medication so I thought it was that causing the seizures. He was also waiting to have tubes put in his ears. Anyway, long story short he was diagnosed with Temperal Lobe Epilespy at the age of 7 ....put on medication...and had tubes in his ears at the same time. For two years, no seizures...no ear infections. Came off the medication after the two years, and went 10 months without a seizure. Got an ear infection...seized again. Back on the meds. Another two years, no ear infections so they decided to take him off again. Just days before his Neuro appointment, he got an ear infection and seized at school!..BAHHARRR. He is now 15, and has been off meds since Christmas....keeping my fingers crossed. Cheers Anne |

Nancy was stricken with Ball's Palsy when she was 18 months old. I read this on a bio on her somewhere. Our local Babylock dealer has met her and says she is very, very nice to talk to....and very tall! Violet I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

Tall? Now that's not fair; to have all that talent and be tall too. Must have some Scandinavian genes, she's in the right geographical area for it. That's probably what inspired her to learn fitting, do you think? I know that on those rare occasions when I need something other than jeans and a T-shirt, my choices are make it or buy and alter it, for exactly the opposite reason (vertically impaired little gnome-like body). I thought that Bell's Palsy was a temporary thing - aparently not always true. Or maybe combined with an ear infection can cause permanent effects? I'm monumentally ignorant about stuff like that. |
