Looks like we might see some of Hurricane Ivan. Today all the schools, fire departments, hospitals, etc., got a memo from the EMA. It's expected to make landfall between Mobile and Pensacola by midnight wednesday.
They're expecting tropical storm force winds with hurricane force gusts and possible 5" to 10" rain HERE on thursday. And we're in central Alabama. I really feel for the ones closer to the gulf. They said it will be similiar to Hurricane Opal in 95.
I hope schools will be closed.

I'm here in the gulf....about 25 miles away and I was here for Opal....yay what fun we'll be having.....
The schools are closed till further notice...the bases are on alert (so they can get the planes out) the people with boats have them tied up or out of the water and we're all watching the weather channel, like it's the ONLY channel on the t.v. (ta heck with the new shows..theres always re-runs !)
My husband said we could go to Disneyworld. (since they're no longer in the path), because they have kennels for animals...yeah...whata treat that would be...a vacation from a hurricane.....( :bang: husbands can be such idiots....)

I have my machines packed up and ready to roll out of here. They say if we get hit and it looks pretty good the way he's rolling throught the gulf that New Orleans is going to get it, we'll be underwater 20 feet deep. We live in a saucer with levee's all around us but a tidal serge will top the levees and flood us for weeks. The water has no where to run out once it's in. We are leaving for higher ground tomorrow. I'm taking pics and machines, my hubby is taking his old car and we are out of here. Heads up to all my gulf state friends I hope you all stay safe and God Bless you all. Until Ivan's gone So LONG!!!!!

The air base here is getting planes in from the south in anticipation of the storm. I'm glad that it is being taken seriously. It looks too bad to ignore. You guys take care. If you don't take your computer or don't get it set up some place, check into a library and let us know where you are.

We heard today that school will probably be canceled here both thursday and friday. We'll know for sure tomorrow morning.

My sister's FIL died last night. They've been rushing today trying to get a funeral planned for tomorrow before the storm gets here.

::twiddling thumbs mode:: this really IS like waiting for a party to happen...
It's been cloudy and R E A L L Y humid for three days now...you'd think Ivan would get here already and end the wait....I think most of it is, that the weather people tell you so far in advance, that the actual huricane is boring by the time it happens.... :whacky:

Hi ladies. I thought I would check in one more time. We'll probably lose electricity by morning. Since we're in a small town we're some of the last ones to get power restored.
I stocked up on canned soup, peanut butter, bread, and ice. :bluewink: Walmart was a madhouse. Not a battery left on a shelf. I got every thing I needed yesterday, except cat litter, or I wouldn't have been there today. Gotta take care of my furbabies.

I saw alot of RVs on the interstate. Hotels here are booked up from people coming from farther south. I-65 from the coast is one way on both sides until Montgomery.
I hope everyone in the southern US stays safe and dry the next couple of days. take care!

WE Had to come home. There was no rooms as far as 12 hours away. It took us 4 hours yesterday when we left to get 2½ miles north of lake Pontchatrain. We left here at 1:00PM and it took us until 10:30 last night to get 100 miles inland. It was grid locked. I slept on the floor of a tanning salon at my neices last night for about 1 hour and then we got up and and tried to head west out of the path of the storm then we found out it was turning more east of us and so we made a circle back around and came back home. We are under a curfew until morning and was told if we didn't get home by 2:00PM this evening New Orleans Police was putting people in jail for breaking the curfew. We just made it into Chalmette in time. They had to check our drivers license when we came into Chalmette to make sure we lived here. If not we couldn't enter. It's very windy out and squalls are blowing about every 15 minutes we get a really hard blowing rain and wind, about 45 - 60 MPH wind gust but nothing really bad. The problem we had was I had my DIL that is 8½ months pregnant with us. We had to stay close to a hospital or at least know exactly where there was one close by where ever we went. Well I've had three really bad days so I'm going to bed as soon as these squalls let up.

All my friend East of me, please stay safe and let us know when you can if your are okay. Susan in Mississippi, Chrys. and Bama I'll be praying for you ladies. God Bless you.

Susie, I'm glad to hear you're okay.
It's still calm here for now. At first they said we'd get it around 3 am. Now they say the worst of it for us will be later this afternoon through tonight. Hubby had to go back into work last night. I hope he gets home soon.
I've been up since 4 am. I went outside a few minutes ago. There's a breeze now and it's soooooo muggy it's hard to breath.
There's tornado warnings south of us.
It looks like it's going to go straight through Birmingham.

I might not be on the boards for a while. Last night Alabama Power said that some areas might be without power for up to a week. :bluesad: I hope we don't lose all the veggies in the freezer that I put up this summer.
I'm going to use the electricity while I can. By for now, I'm going to go make pancakes for the kids.

Hi everyone, We had to leave out as we're too close to the gulf & our lakes in the back of us. Since things we're to be so bad so for up we just drove a little farther so we could see one of my brothers in Mo. He has a small home so had to stay in motels whole time we were gone. That was ok. Only saw him for an hr one night & then next day. We didn't get any bad weather here in Naples were so lucky one more time. I feel so sorry for everyone where it's doing so much damage. Hope all will be safe. I cleared out my freezer & fridge before we left & gave all away as it would have spoiled. Still don't regret that at all. Was put to good use. Don't plan on restocking as usual until hurricane season is over. Just get what we need whenever. Going up all the way was FL. tags. was wondering if anyone was left in the state. Made good time though. Police we're great about letting people go some faster but we're catching the stupid drivers. We did have some waiting in long lines at times. Police we're doing same thing on the way back so we could beat the bad weather. Theresa

I can't imagine what you are all going thru. We don't have hurricanes or tornadoes, just long winter months. I pray that everyone will be kept safe.
Please keep us updated, am thinking of you all.

I had heard on one of the weather networks that the United States, because of the Rocky Mountain range going into flat lands and having upflow currents from the Gulf, is one of the only places on the plant that has tornados. It has something to do with the cooler air coming over the mountains eastward and combining with the hot moist air from the gulf, the two mix together and all "7734" ( old middle school gag for swearing, except the angle stem on the 4 should be straight up) can break loose!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you see the pictures of the bridge over the one bay that fell into the bay!!!!

Theresa, You are okay that's all that counts.

Bama, we had gust of 60MPH here until around 4AM then when daylight broke the sun came out and it is breezy and hot. We didn't lose power but those poor people in Fl and AL coast were really in harms way I can't help but feel for them.

We've decided to move this year even if we don't sell our place by then. It's too hard when these things come our way. Our lives arer more precious then any convience of having something close. I love living this close to the seafood industry but the trouble of losing everything and living in an up roar when these things blow threw is not worth all the trouble. I'm getting too old for all this worrying. Keep in touch Chrsy. and Bama. My prayers are with you both and all the ones in the path.

I have the computers up and running and all my sewing back in place, now for all the pictures to go back in place. UGHHHHH :whacky: The groceries are not open yet and I'm out of my diet food. No popcorn, yogurt, grapes, skim milk, It could be worse with no food at all.

I'm glad to hear from ya'll in the storm path and that you're okay. I hope Chrys got through it okay.
We had heavy wind and lots of rain, but the worst is over. We lost power for most of the day. When I called AL Power they said it might be thursday before it came back on. It's already back on. I'm sure others are not so lucky. Hubby says we'll probably lose power again before the rain is all over.

My parents live further east. I think they got it worse than we did. I can't get through to them right now, but I did talk to my mom around 2:00. They were in the basement along with several poeple who came to ride it out there.

Our pond is overflowing. I hope we don't lose any of our koi fish. They've become my pets. I'm sure we'll lose some of the brim fry over the spillway.

I just heard on the news that in south AL (I think they said Gulf Shores) a zoo had their alligators escape when it flooded. They showed one swimming down a street. :nervous:

The damage down south looks pretty bad, but the news is saying we were lucky it wasn't worse.

I'll check back soon if we keep electricity.

Great news Bama you are okay. Let us know how your Mother makes out also. I have been unpacking all day and I'm still not finished. My sewing machine is on the blink so tomorrow I'm going to take it in if the people who run the shop are back from evacuating. Some didn't make it back here yet. They all :bolt: for Houston and are still out there trying to come home. I checked with all my people in Mississippi and they are all okay too. I think East of Mobile got the worst of it and North East of there. 20 people have died so far in the US. Keep in touch Bama and don't eat too many Brem, save some for me. YUMMY. I'll trade you some Crayfish for Brem. :bluewink:

Susie, That sounds like a good trade to me. Hubby would like that.

I got in touch with my mom this morning. Their power came back on before daylight. The only damage they had was a big tree limb smashed part of their fence.
We've been outside picking up little fish and putting them in buckets and taking them back to the pond. The cats are having a feast. :nervous:

Poor little fishies. It's bad enough they were throw out the water then to have a hugh monster try and eat'em.

Glad to hear you are still with lights and Mom is fine.............Until next time LOL. I've made up my mind there will be no next time evacuation for me. I'm :bolt: out of here. We are moving north of Lake Pontchatrain soon. We have been having problems finding a Realtor to even sign up with. They won't call you back. This has been going on for over a year. We signed with one and he moved to Florida. Then one with Latter and Blum won't call us back.

Bama,
We've been watching the news and they showed the alligator swimming down the street. Some deer as well. I'm glad though that everyone is fine.
