Need your helps ladies,

My 12-year-old son wants me to make him a pair of "Short" P.J's ....almost along the lines of boxer shorts. I have a Kwik Sew Pattern 3122 which I purchased to make hubby and the older boy some for Christmas. Anyway, how hard is it to go one size lower?? My 12-year-olds sizes are all 2-3" less than the S size on the pattern. I will be tracing the pattern.

Cheers

If I were you , I would not make them too snug.. You know , traditionally boys hit a growth spurt sometime in their twelfth year.. My 2 hit 2 in that year, first they grew around,, then about 6 months later they sprouted up very quickly.. I use plain old shorts patterns all the time for my GSons.. They love them and sleep in them .. I usually make them a little longer and a small amount fuller , so they can at least get 18 months wear out of them.. :bg: :bg:

Hi, I just registered on this site and was reading your post on boxers. I've been making boxers for 2 of my grandsons and I'm using First Choice Boxers for Kids #804. It's a Classic 5 panel boxer and is fun to make. It has sizes 2-12 and I made the size 12 for my 12 yr. old grandson. The pattern is available from Timber Lane Press

I got mine from a quilting shop. Might be worth a look there.
Hope this helps

I sew for my grandsons a lot and I wouldn't bother to go down a size. They grow before your very eyes. My one grandson is 13 and he towers over me at 5'7". I'm thinking he is very close to 5'10" and will be over 6' easy by the time he finally stops.

Thanks Ladies....great advise. Gosh, Mary....what do your grandson's eat??

My boys are both little nippers. The recently turned 15-year-old JUST started growing a few months ago and is now 4" taller than me (don't get excited everyone, I am only 5' 1/2"). My youngest (who wants the pj shorts) is almost 13 but very small for his age. Hence the dilema. I think I will rip apart an old holey pair he has and using the Kwik Sew...combine the both to come up with something. This is so much fun. I had forgotten how much fun sewing can be.

Thanks again
Anne
