Yep...ol Ivan hit 'us' hard.....got over being bored with it about 10 pm on wednesday night....thats when the wind started and all the windows started rattling....then about 1 am thurs the eye started comming ashore and then the REAL wind started and the rain (sorta...it wasn't much)....by 2:30 thursday morning the power and phones were out....the phones came back on yesterday and we got power this morning.....YEAH for the power, phone and grocery store people....We had power people from Quebec, Ohio, Pennsylvania..(those are just the ones I saw...) We had police, Sheriffs, and highway patrol from all over FL...we had the National Guard...YEAH to all of them too....We have great neighbors and we've all been helping each other and keeping each other company...(block parties at night in the dark are fun...)
We (thankfully...very thankfully) have very little damage...a few shingles are gone...all our landscaping (about 11 shrubs and one tree) are blown out of the ground..the neighbors 30ft tree fell in our yard and took out the fence.(and 1/2 of our 30 ft tree...) We're fine....the ferrets are fine and all my neighbors are fine....(some of the neighbor kids slept through the whole thing..must be nice :whacky: )
We didn't get much news...the radio stations were off the air for one day and after they came back up, it was mostly local stuff...some fool had the guts (and a phone) to call in and ask for a weather report....hhmmmm...it's been 90...clear and sunny since friday...I wanted to yell, "look outside you fool...." but since I couldn't.... :bang: I yelled at the radio.... :re:
So I'm reading all the news, watching t.v. and catching up on 4 days of mostly nothing but, what stores are open, where the gas is....where FEMA is, etc, etc, etc.....

Re-Hello everyone....I'm glad to be here....

It's nice to hear from you Chrys. I'm glad to hear that you made it through it with little damage. I've been wondering if ya'll had power yet. I sure missed mine and it was only out for about 6 hours. :re:
I hope it won't take ya'll long to clean up the trees. (did my share of that Friday) It could have been alot worse.
I was on the interstate toward Birmingham yesterday and saw alot of Florida car tags heading back south. Let's hope this will be the last hurricane to hit Florida and the Gulf this season.

Welcom back Chrys. Glad to hear you and your neighbors only suffered minor damage compared to some other people suffered. Hurricanes sure are scary but trying to get out of town in bumper to bumper stopped traffic is even scarier. Ask me how I know. I lived in West Palm Beach, FL when Andrew was coming onshore and I headed for Orlando. What was noramlly a 2 hr & 45 min. drive took me over 6 hours and I swore that was the last time I would do that. You could get caught by the (**)*) hurricane sitting in traffic. I was in Pensacola on one of the barrier islands in 1995 when Opal made landfall there. We evacuated to Alabama and the eye of the hurricane followed us and passed over where we had evacuated to. :bolt:
