:mad Rats! I have been working on a BOM project from Applewood.com called Moondance. August's blocks are a whole bunch of black and white connecting blocks. Well, doncha know I cut 12 strips one inch too narrow. And they are 9-1/2" long. AND I already sewed them onto the blocks. PHOOEY! Dilemma...do I recut the 12 to the correct dimensions, take off the wrong pieces and resew the right ones? OR... cut 12 strips 9-1/2 long by 1_1/2 wide, and just sew these extras onto the existing sewn strips? The perfectionist in me says do it right. The devil in me says, go for adding the strips. Well, my motto is: _Done is better than perfect. I think I'll add the additional strips. I can always say the devil made me do it. LOL Marti in Mexico |

Go for the added strips, it will add to the character of the quilt.

I must say I agree - done is better than perfect! I would see it not so much as a mistake but as a creative opportunity. Your quilt will be very individual. |

I don't know if it's true or not, but I have heard that the Amish deliberately make a mistake in each quilt because only God is perfect. Even though I'm not Amish, I always use this as my excuse (I have never sewn anything that is even close to perfect in my life but none of the recipients of my sewn items ever seem to care or even notice)! |

I have heard that about the Amish too. If anyone could stitch the perfect quilt, it would be them. I will never have that to worry about. MaryW

Well, I did it. I just added the additional width to the existing strips on my blocks. Looks fine. You guys are right...it's not called PATCHWORK for nothing! LOL I believe the idea of deliberately making a small error in your work comes from the ancient Eastern cultures, or Middle Eastern .... I forget exactly, but the Amish did not originate this idea. The ancient rug weavers usually wove a mistake into their rugs so as not to offend God, who is the only one who can create perfection. Marti in Mexico |
