Please forgive me if this has been asked/answered before... I have three boys. And there is pitifully little that I've found in the way of patterns for them! Any recommendations outside of the Big 4 (Simplicity, Butterick, McCall's, Vogue)? |

I'm sure its been said before, but Kwik Sew patterns and books are great. Also Ottobre magazine has wonderful up to date styles for boys and girls (tracing the patterns is a little challenging though!) I've heard you can get Ottobre through Wazoodle and I think some of the Joann etc stores carry them. MS |

Ottobre has some very nice designs for boys, but as was said, they are a challenge to trace off. I have sewed a lot for little boys. I usually try to add some sort of embellishment that I find on a man's shirt or jeans to the basic pattern. MaryW

I enjoy using the patterns in the Kwik Sew pattern books. Depending on which boy I am sewing for I use the baby, toddler or childrens book. I also use Jasmine Hubble's "Sew and Go Kids" book. I find MacPhee Workshop patterns are nice for outerwear and have nice suggestions for embellishment. I whip up hooded sweatshirts for them each year. Have fun - forget the frills, bring on the trucks, tractors and bugs - my kids love lots of pockets.

I think the real problem for finding boys patterns is that there is very little you can do to a shirt and pants to make them different. Boys are very limited in what is considered exceptable to wear. If you put him in a pair of pants cut to 3/4 length he would get laughed out of school. I actually enjoy sewing for my boy the best. I just finished a shirt and tie for him last night. Gina

I'm back to sewing for little ones again, three boys and one girl all under 3. Lots of fun I really enjoyed taking a class at the McPhee workshop in Edmonton um, 20 years ago? I made our kids winter parkas and made a matching parka, boots and mitts for Brandy's Cabbage Patch doll. I used that doll for many years in my Inuit unit at school. I'm not familiar with Burda or the Ottobere (sp) so will make a point of having a look. Hope everyone is enjoying a good week, take care. NanaBear who used to be much more organized! |
