Will do, Patsy. Try to relax...I know that's hard to do, but it will be over before you know it. Think about how much better you will feel when it is! :bluesmile

Thanks ladies for all your good wishes. I guess it's normal to be a bit apprehensive anytime they're going to cut on your body, especially your eyes. I know, the technique is commonplace, fast and from what I've heard, painless with a very quick recovery. I'm looking forward to dispensing with glasses 24/7. I may have to wear glasses for doing computer work but otherwise, I will have mono vision. I've work glasses since I was in 5th or 6th grade. I'm very excited about being able to wear regular sunglasses.

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow Patsy.
It will be over soon and well worth it for you. That's what I kept telling myself when I had surgery this summer. And it was true.

Patsy, two of my cousins had it done while they were in their 30's both of them have clear vision today...they are now in their late 60's. They are the longest living lens recipients (most are older than their 30's when they have it done.) No problems (ever). My mother had it done. She became a great encourager for anyone needing the surgery. She always said that it was the best thing that she ever had done! Her vision was immediately better! She eventually had it done in both eyes. It is a long way from the cataract surgery my grandfather had in the 50's (thank goodness!) You'll do great!!!!

Someone told me once to look at everyone as if they were naked, went to sleep laughing, one nurse asked me later what was so funny, I guess they thought I was behaving abnormal. Had a good laugh over that too. You'll do great, here's rooting for you.

My surgery is over and I'm fine. It took a total of 12 minutes for the surgeon to do his job and I was back home at 10:50 a.m. this morning. No. pain or anything, just slept a little while this afternoon as I still had some of the anesthetic in my system and the right side of my head was numb all day. I go back tomorrow morning to have the patch taken off. Thanks for all your positive thoughts and prayers. I've even managed to do a little hand quilting this afternoon and evening but having only one functioning eye does a few strange things to your depth perception and periphial vision.

Nope. In fact, I had Chinese last night and just finishing the remainder of it tonight for my din din. The only restrictions I have is that I have 2 different meds (drops) to use 4 times a day until Oct 8 then I have 1 more that I have to use for another week. Last night I had to sleep at a 30 degree angle (two pillows) -- practically sitting up which made me miserable all night but I survived and I have to sleep in a plastic shield for the next week (no problem with that) and under no circumstances am I to be outside without sun glasses on 1) the glare will cause my eye to burn and water and 2) to prevent any kind of air born particle from getting in my eye and scratching it. Otherwise, I've already been sewing, driving, shopping, etc. today.

I know you feel like a million dollars, Patsy! ! that is so cool, 20/20 again after all this time.. That is the same experience my Mom had when she had hers done.. First thing she did when the patch came off was take off her glasses and picked up the newspaper and read it..She kept showing everybody all day that she could read the paper without her glasses.. So far, I havent had any signs of cataracts.. I'm glad you are doing so well.. :bg: :bg: :bg:

I do have 20/20 in my right eye but I'm nearsighted in my left eye. The Doc gave me mono-vision and my eyes are struggling to adapt. Right now, I kind of live in a somewhat blurry, watery world but everyone keeps assuring me that my eyes will adjust and my brain will train itself to see close up out of my left eye and in the distance with my right eye. So far, I love being without glasses except yesterday I had the most god awful migraine headache which the doc said sometimes happens especially when someone has worn glasses most of their life as I have (since 5th grade). He says my eyes have gotten lazy and dependent on the glasses over the years and now they are struggling to function without the help of the corrective lenses.

Okay guys it's me again. I had to go back to the eye doctor again today. My migraine's are getting worse and constant. He decided to go ahead and do my left eye next Thursday morning. I have what he called "convergence" which means that there is so much difference in the sight in my right eye (20/20) and my left eye (?) that my brain can't find a happy medium for seeing the same thing and now my entire world has become watery and blurry with a hugh depth perception problem and, I can't see anything at night so that means absolutely no driving. Have you ever tried to drive, during daylight hours only, when everything is a blur and you can't really tell how close the car behind you is or if you have room to change lanes or anything. I'm really nervous but since I have no choice but go to work, I'm doing it. Anyway, next Thursday, I will have 20/20 in both eyes and he says I can go to Walgreens and buy me a pair of reading glasses. The surgery is rather expensive (thank goodness my insurance is paying) but cheaper overall than a new pair of glasses every year at at least $300-$400.

Go for it Patsy, I can understand his reasoning especially for poor vision at the moment. Have you tried driving with your least good eye shut? There would be less confusion and you would have 0 depth perception but I just wondered about the blurryness. Drive safe until then! You know what a difference it will make in the long run.

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. I understand it though. I have had mega problems (years) adjusting to wearing glasses. I've tried contacts and do better, esp. bifocal lens, but my eyes blurr and dry out with them. (I went from no glasses to trifocals overnight.) Anyway, the last time I got contacts, they tried one eye close, one far. The contacts did not dry out because of the type, but I have terrible headaches, can't see at night, have depth perception problems and confusion (I hope it is the eyes). Anyway, they gave me glasses with a correction to wear when I was driving and I have the same problems wearing them that you are having with your eyes. I guess my brain just is too "set in it's ways"to adjust. (It gives new meaning to being hard-headed.)

Sorry to hear of your problems with your eyes adjusting. My doc wanted to put me in contacts with one for close the other for far. I vetoed that when he told me some people couldn't adjust to it easily, plus I can't imagine me putting contacts in my eyes in the first place. I'll stick with my bifocals for now. :bluesad: A co-worker had lens replacement on both eyes and her doc used lenses that would make one eye good for near and the other far. She just could not adjust to it. She ended up having to have glasses made to reverse the effect. Couldn't remove the lens at that point since she couldn't afford it and her insurance wouldn't cover it. BTW if you have a Dollar Store you can get reading glasses there a whole lot cheaper.

I think I would have liked the mono-vision thing but since I have no depth perception, the only way he can correct it and give me back my depth perception is to go ahead and remove the other cataract and put in another 20/20 distance lens to make the vision equal in both eyes and let me do the reading/computer glasses thing, which, to me, will be much easier than living in a blurry world, having migraine headaches, and taking the chance on killing myself or someone else because it's hard to judge moving traffic behind, beside and in front of you with no depth perception. And, I can't drive at night at all as everything is just a blur and I refuse to become a prisoner in my house at night or depend totally on my husband to run me to guild meetings, quilt workshops, etc. I'm far too independent for that.
