Well, I posted several weeks ago about making flags for the band's color guard! I drafted 3 flag patterns to be made into 20 flags each. A friend helped me cut one set and I did all the basic assembly on the first flag and about 75 percent on two other sets. After testing the flat fells on each flag set, I passed each set off to another mom who in some cases, finished the flags and did the flat fell. In the meantime, I made 16 pair of pants and drafted a dress pattern and made 16 dress and headscarves, embroidered 11 fronts and backs of hoodies for the drumline, and 11 stocking hats. I also embroidered two shirts each for the two band directors. Made my daughter's drum major dress and the other drum major's matching vest. When I finished the uniforms and the embroidery, another parent and I finished up the hemming and sleeves on the flags and finally, after six weeks, turned them in. I pretty sick of Lame', China silk, Twinkle Organza, Jersey knit and Panne' velvet right now. Sunday we were asked to do between 16 and 20 streamers that will could be as short as 15 feet long or be as long as 24 feet for the finale. They would like to have them by the 2nd of October (I don't think that we can possibly get them done by then we probably won't have the material before Monday.) I think they will be made from ripstock nylon and lame'.

As for the flat fell seams that I was worried about: We did have to clip the curves on the flags (didn't know if it would make them weak) or they looked terrible. The Twinkle did not cooperate at all and of the three fabrics, China silk, lame' and Twinkle, the lame was the easiest to flat fell (which really did suprise me.)

This was all done as volunteer labor (and I do mean labor). If I'm going to endure this amout of abuse for this amount of time, I've just about decided that I might as well open my business back up and get paid (still thinking about it.)
