We have a little Scottish ancestry... I always thought I'd change my name to Pat McCrotch ... or maybe Holden McGroin.
see the mundane life of a housewife.

My Mom grew up in a town of less than 400 people.. They had a family there , last name Buzhard. (biz ZARD) . Everyone called them the Buzzards. They went to court and changed their name to Early.. After that, everyone called them the Early Buzzards.. That is true, I swear..

ROFLMAO!!!!!

Here's another...there's a prominent family by the last name of Assman in the rural midwestern area where DH grew up. They own the local farm equipment dealership...guess what it's called? "Assman Implement"! I just about died laughing the first time I saw that sign. Even though DH says it's pronounced "Oz-mun", I still crack up.

Not sure I want to know about those implements...

I worked in a Building Research Establishment for a while, you can imagine how much I laughed when I saw that the Stress and Strain department was next to the Creep Testing Laboratory.

Definite case of nominative determinism. Mr Beech worked in the New Wood Store!

A friend of mine worked for the Blood Products Laboratory, Dagger Lane, county of Herts.

I worked for a law firm in Indiana in the 1970s that had a client with the last name "Queer." When you called their residence they would answer the phone "Queer's residence." That was long before homosexuality was prevalent and out in the open. I hope this doesn't offend anyone but it's the truth.

Mischka --
We have a lot of Assmans around here to.
But a few years back my daughter and her friends -- then in their early teens -- really got a kick out of Bobbit Implement, a local farm machinery store. (remember John Wayne's Bobbit?)

And remember the poor guy who got his dooie cut off, his last name was Bobbit too.

We have a lot of Outhouse's around here, that is their last name. Not to mention Pottie's too. No lie. Very common names.

That was John Wayne Bobbit, Mary.
Our sheriff is an Outhouse. Sheriff Outhouse. His wife won't use the name. Can't say I blame her.

I thought I'd add about the Outhouse's but you beat me to it, there are quite a few as well as the Whynots (honest, real names) :re:

If they couldn't re-attach the "bobbit", would that have made him a "Hobbit"?

Girls, I'm laughing so hard I won't be able to sleep tonight. It's kind of like that old Kool-aid gingle " Kool-aid Kool-aid taste great " now get that one off your brain. Have to sing it first. So help me I'll lay there in bed & all these silly names will go through my head & DH will think I've lost it for sure. Will someone please get me out of this straight jacket ? Their comin to take me away HA-HA. ( REMEMBER THAT SONG ? :bang: :bang: :bang:
