I'm making a vest out of black corduroy and the best match I have for lining in my stash is a spandex tourquoise - and - black leopard print. I've never put a non-stretch together w a 4-way stretch. Am I nuts? What do I have to think about? (Besides using a different fabric!!!) TIA, nancy |

Baste, baste, baste! (did I say baste?) Other than that, maybe you could iron some stabilizer to the lining so it wouldn't stretch as much. Good luck and let us know how it turns out! Jessica photos.yahoo.com/greendragondesigns

You need to consider whether these two fabrics are compatible for washing. Have you pre-washed both? Will they successfully go through the same treatment after they're put together? |

Oh dear. I was stitching the raw ends of this stretchy fabric to prepare it for machine wash and dry. As I stitched, a run appeared to the LEFT of the needle, gleefully following my stitching. This happened in zig-zag and when I tried a straight stitch. I swear it was just like a run in nylons! Does this mean the fabric is a nyon-spandex mix? More importantly, does this mean I should just toss it (pls say no -- it's such a wonderfully perfectly funky lining to plain black). Could I fuse-interface it instead of the primary fabric? A desperate solution. If anyone has run into mystery fabric w this problem, I sure could use some advice -- hopefully to save it -- but I'll accept the judgment of better minds than mine. nancy |

That like a too dull or too thick needle problem. Best to work this out before you start on your vest pieces. You need the finest needle for knits you can find, possibly there is one specifically for swimsuit fabric. Ask at the fabric store or wait for someone with more experience using these fabrics supplies the answer. So far the few things I've made from swimsuit or lycra fabrics have gone fine with the smallest size in a package of lightweight knit needles. |

Right, make sure it's the ballpoint needle, which goes between the threads in the fabric, it doesn't try to puncture it like a sharp needle. Jessica photos.yahoo.com/greendragondesigns

I love using novelty prints for linings when using corduroy or sim fabric. |

I'm with you guys. I have gone so far as to buy a cool fabric for lining and later design the garment to match the lining. If the lining isn't slippery enough (or is very expensive) I'll put some regurlar lining in the sleeves of a jacket. Somtimes you can line something with a fabric that you can't really get away with wearing otherwise. Dorothy |
