AUGH! A distinct feeling of dread washed over me...! My "handmade" Christmas gifts are actually homemade caramels, and can't be made until mid December, so no getting an early start or staying ahead of the game or anything! |

Mary I would rather have contacted you individually to say this, but you do not accept private messages here. In case you forgot, there are people who do not believe in this holiday and are not interested in discussing it. It is very uncomfortable to feel more and more like an excluded minority during this "season". Please label posts on this topic as such, rather than having them look like something that is of interest to everyone here. Sewing, and things to do with membership in this site, are of interest to all here. |

I apologize if I have slighted or offended anyone by mentioning Christmas or Thanksgiving. However, it is an open forum. Other than sex, politics or religion, almost anything can be discussed. This topic will be mentioned on radio, tv, in magazines and on the internet. Sometimes these boards are motivated by humor, and this is what I started out with, a little tease about the upcoming holidays. For those of you who do not celebrate these holidays, simply ignore these posts. I have and always will accept private messages. In fact, several of the people on these boards send me private messages regularly. MaryW

My point was it's hard to ignore a post when you don't know the subject before you open it. I thought it might be something similar to your request for us to click on the ads. It looked like something addressed to everyone. I know it's hard to imagine the experience of someone who doesn't enjoy this holiday and everything about it, since those of us for whom this is a lifelong experience usually stay quiet about it. When I clicked on your name and tried to PM you it said you don't accept PM's. Please check this so it can be fixed if that's not your intention. |

Personally, I hate Halloween, but the rest of you can dress up as bananas for all I care! And I know Islamic families who give Christmas presents - in our world as it is, it is hard to ignore major festivals. I have, however, forgiven the Americans for the war of Independance, (tease)and I am glad to say I met some Irish folk the other year who came over to Cromwell's home town as an act of reconciliation as well.(not tease, quite serious - he was brutal to the Irish) A message of peace isn't hard to swallow, is it? love and kisses, Jan

I have to say I agree w StitchMD. yes, this is a Christian country -- Christmas is a national holiday. But, Mary, please don't assume that everyone is sewing Christmas presents. Some may be making Chanukah or kwanza gifts or just do not observe holidays during this time. I think it's very difficult when you're in the majority to understand the hurtful acts others grow up with. And even tho we know you were joking, it's really not so funny to a lot of folks. I'm Jewish and had stones thrown at me as a kid as well as nasty taunts. Yes, I'm an adult now, but echoes still remain, and I'm also now able to speak up whereas I had to run home as a kid. nancy |

All this petty bickering about different religions just reinforces my agnosticism. Mary meant no harm and doesn't merit such responses. Incidentally I e-mail Mary privately now and again and have never had any difficulty. Lise . |

It's quite amazing what kind of reaction my simple request to title things relative to the content has brought out. I made a simple request, and now feel as if I have had stones thrown at me for daring to see things differently. It's also interesting that when I have made similar comments elsewhere about peoples' assumptions that everyone is alike in this interest, even hinted at it indirectly, people have immediately understood and stated they understood, even apologized. I don't want an apology, I don't want anyone to not discuss this topic, I simply want to have the option to not to be in on it. |

Lise, I think the only one being petty and frankly, nasty, is you. Walk in someone else's shoes for awhile, and see how it is from a different perspective -- I think that's all the StitchMD was asking. nancy |

If anyone celebrates Kwanza or Chanukah they are also free to post their celebrations here as well. A simple change in the topic heading should calm everyone down. I cannot change the main heading on the forum main page but I have changed the sub-title. That is all I can do. Let's not dwell on this. MaryW
