I just finished making 50 hairbows for a tumbling squad with my Janome 10000. I keep thinking there has got to be a better way to hoop and stabilize these things than the way I did it. I was afraid the back would show when they flipped, so I used a heavy-duty tear away in the hoop. This is what I did: anybody got a better way? I sprayed the stablilizer with embroidery spray, stuck the ribbon to it, hooped the whole thing (hoop only caught the ends of the ribbon, and used a basting stitch program to go all around the 4 outside edges before the embroidery started. They look okay but still pulled a little. I know I am just being too picky, but if I get into this again next year I'd like to be prepared. I did them three ends at a time but still took forever!

you might try a sticky backing next time....just stick it to your hoop and stick the ribbon ON the sticky, you can float more backing under the hoop if you want/need to....

I agree with Chrys; and, I'd match my bobbin thread to the ribbon or fabric color to alleviate underside color concerns when they flip.

I have a way that works great to embroidery on ribbon. I played around with different stabilizers before I hit on this. I had a sheer ribbon & wanted it nice on both sides. I used ultra solvy with the ribbon inbetween. One on the bottom & one on the top. The extremely stable solvy that is. Used same color in bobbin as on the top. Had no ripples or stabilizer to see on the back side. Just pressed the ribbon on a towel right side down after I rinsed the solvy out. I get so determined when I know something can be done but I don't know how to do it. Yes, I'm very stubborn. Hope I'm not too late to help you.

Hey Vicki, That was good question. I have the Janome 9000. I am going to embroidery on ribbon for my girls also and did two already and they came out the way yours did. A little rippled and you can see the stablizer on the back. They loved them even if I thought they could look better. I used a tear and wash with the spray.

BeachGirl that is worth trying. I have one more to do so I think I'll get the solvy tomorrow. Thanks
