I hope everyone is ready for our next set of lessons. These will be on how to line a simple vest.

What you will need is a very simple vest pattern. Perhaps you would rather make a one for your children before you try one for yourself. This is a great way to get your experience.

Find a very simple pattern. Try www.sewingpatterns.com they have an ad at the top of most of these pages. Or you may already have a pattern.

Here is what you need:

Fabric for vest
Matching thread
Lining
Interfacing (enough to back both front pattern pieces)

We will not be addressing fitting with these lessons, just the basic sewing and turning of the vest with some sort of closure.

I hope you will have some fun with these new lessons. Maybe a quick Hallowe'en vest with some scarey lining.

This is fantastic -- I'm just getting started on one. But have to get the pattern to fit, first. Am all ears (well, eyes, actually:-)

Make a muslin to play around with and get a good fit.

I also must say that instead of interfacing you could use a flannel to give the fronts more body. The flannel provides body yet is nice and soft. It can also be warm.

Another thing, pre-wash your fabric and interfacing/flannel as you want to care for it later. If you do use flannel, wash and dry 2-3 times to make sure it won't shrink once your vest is sewn.

While we were down, I noticed a lady posted on the guestbook. She had sewn up 16 vests from my workshop as Christmas gifts. Super, I am so glad someone can benefit from my workshop.
