I LOVE this show. I wish someone would just come in and give me a new home!!!! Better yet just give me Ty Pennington, droooooooool. Do you ever wonder just what the home owner gets stuck with in the way of taxes and whatever else after Sears leaves? Or do they really get everything free and clear? Are these families really able to take on any added expense that must come from these improvements. |

The show has made an 'end run' around the tax thing....the show actually 'rents' the home they're doing (for whatever the amt is they're spending)....calling everything in it donated and a gift. (which it is, sorta). There are no taxes this way and if you put the house on the same footprint as the old one, no new taxes, which is what they almost always do.

Chrys -- I think the tax thing depends on the state you are in. Here in New York the property taxes would eventually catch up with you in most towns. Dorothy |

Chrysantha, I didn't know that [they rented the house]. Next time they come to my area, I'm filling out the form!!!!!!!!!! Last time, my boys got on their knees, begging me, lol. I love that show.
