Isn't it something, Mt. St. Helens erupting again after all this time. I remember the first time it happened. We were camping in the mountains of Alberta, Canada. We woke up in the morning and everything was covered in a fine ash. The winds had blown it north. It was almost red, but not quite. What a mess! This was like 20 yrs. ago.

Mary,
I think I was in the first grade the last time it erupted, 23 or 24 yrs. ago. My husband just told me it was 1980. :re:

Even the skys of Oklahoma carried the ash for about a month. I guess that it went around the world. I had a friend who was working in the Yakima airport when it blew. He didn't know what had happened but as the ash came rolling in and the sky grew pitch black, he truly throught the world was coming to an end. He said the first thing that came into his mind after that was thoughts of how he wanted to be with his family.....

I was in Kindergarten in 1980. I don't remember the ash (I lived in the mountains of Alberta.). I remember seeing pictures of it some time later. Probably grade 5 or 6. It seems so surreal that a volcano is errupting. To that is thesort of thing happened in history(ie pompei) not present day.

We were here in southwest Fl. and we got the ash from it, several days was almost dark & cars was covered. People with breathing problems had to stay in doors but it even got inside homes. I know the state of Missouri got the ash also. What a mess.
