My grandson has adopted a stray cat and she now has full run of the house. The only problem is she keeps bringing in her "catch of the day" for us. This morning I found a baby squirrel in my grandson's room. This cat had jumped in the window and brought her catch with her. I just about fainted.

I know I should have had the screen on, but this is not the first time I have had to have a burial. Good grief.

Here is what I do. Do not make a big deal of it. Clean it up just like anything else that might get left on the floor. If you give the cat any kind of attention they will continue to bring you presents. My cats had the habbit of offering baby snakes and lizzards. They left them on the back patio. So I didn't even clean it up. They kept moving them to different spots in hope that I might see them but after a day or so they were gone. Occasionally they bring in another but after they see that I am not interested it just dissapears. They probably take it to the neighbor.

Mary,
At least it was a whole animal. My cats leave the heads of birds and voles on our doormat.
One of my cats tried to run in the house with a live rabbit in her mouth. It was half her size. I slammed the door just in time. Did you know rabbits make a shrieking sound???
Allie tried to catch them, but it was too late.

Our old cat ( now deceased) used to try to bring his prey into the house. He was a three rabbit a week cat. The worst was the one that he had jhalf disembowed before he brought it in, the guts got caught on the cat flap and unravelled around the kitchen. Messy.

It was very peculiar the way he would eat the entirety of the rabbit except one ear, an unknown internal organ and the bile duct. I had one cat that would only eat birds and always left the left claw as a calling card. He eventually got he hang that we just put his offerings outside and let him eat them out there. Frogs scream like a girl, scarey.

Our new cat (Oona,7 weeks) has yet to learn how to kill cat food! She'll get there.

I have heard a useful deterent is to make a solution of cayenne pepper in water and spray it where you do not wish the cat to go. Cheaper than pepper spray and probably the same thing.

We used to find the beak, feet and a pile of corn just outside the door.
One year we had a bunch of pigeons roosting in our roof. (The whole town was plagued with them that year) My husband and the cat would go pigeon hunting out the back door with a pellet gun. He'd knock them down and the cat would finish them off.
Saved on cat food.

We live in the country with fields all around us. The is no way to keep mice out of the house no matter what we do. All of our cats are inside cats but that doesn't slow down their hunting instincts. One evening I crawled into bed, it was late and saw something jump (waterbed) out of the corner of my eye. I screamed and got out of bed fast. It was toy mouse. Next night, same thing with a twist. This time it was a dead mouse. Since the night before it was a toy I didn't get out of bed, until DH came to bed and asked if I always sleep with dead mice! I was :bolt:. DH just thank the cat for the treat and disposed of it.

--with all your cats story here,I don't feel guilty anymore for returning our cat to the humane society, bec she always scratch my son and the last two scratch was really kinda deep and I don't wanna wait until she scratch him on unwanted spot (specially the eyes) before getting rid of her.

How do you handle a cat back home from the hunt? Pat them on the head, say "good kitty" and shove them back out the door to enjoy the spoil!

Mine have gotten lazy. They'll chase a rabbit, or a mockingbird or a gecko, but usually it's the other way around. They've all gotten so lazy!

Awww! She's bringing you a present! :bg: What do *I* do?? Keep my cats inside! LOL! BUT...if something "happens" to get in the house and the little ones kill it and bring it to me, I scream for my hubby. :dave:
