I have a Viking Designer I, bought new and is now about 3 years old. It started having problems with the bobbin sensor and after numerous trips to the service place here, it was sent back to the factory. Three weeks later, it returned and has worked well regarding the bobbin problem. I have been using it for about two weeks. Anyway, I wanted to embroider a label for a quilt--nothing fancy, and the machine kept stopping, indicating the thread was broken. It wasn't and no matter what I did, I couldn't get through the embroidery process without constant attention to that darned indicator and re-starting the machine. So, it is back at the shop today. Sigh. Also, the tension was wonderful when I first got the machine, and I never had to set anything no matter what I wanted to sew or embroider. It just automatically sensed what was needed. Not anymore. It makes me crazy:)! Has anyone else has these problems with this machine? I mean, my house is about as clean as it is going to get and I want to sew

Have you checked all around your machine area ?? Sounds to me like there is a magnet too close to your computerized machine.. That will put gremlins in there in a hurry....

There wasn't a magnet on the table when I was stitching. I had heard that magnets would/might create a problem, but the owner of the shop where I purchased the machine said that wasn't the case with the Viking. But, I will keep that in mind. It is so disappointing to have a top of the line machine that doesn't work properly. Thanks for your response, though, I will remember to keep my magnetic pin cushion away from the machine.

Gayle, I had to chuckle when I read your post about "Now, your house is clean and you want to sew". I am the same way..I want my house clean before I sew. I feel your frustration about your machine not working properly. When I was looking for a new machine..non Viking..I went through some of the same experiences with these new machines. I had one for almost 2 weeks and it kept saying to put the foot down and it wouldn't sew..the foot was down. This machine had a few other problems and I really liked it but after this episode of not sewing telling me about the foot I returned it. I purchased another computerized machineand it had computer problems and also the stitch density changed constantly along with thread nesting. I returned it. I purchased another brand also computerized but this one was supposed to have auto tension..the tension was totally broken. I did reorder this one because it had no computer problems just the tension and the new one that I received has been just fine. I also purchased a good mechanical machine while all this was going on. So I have several good machines. I could not believe I had 3 lemons in a row. I really don't know why so many good machines today have these problems..it seems no matter what the brand. I used to sell machines for many years and never saw this happening in those years but back then not many machines were computerized like the machines of today. I hope you get the problems worked out with yours. I suggest to take it back to the dealer and when it is repaired..stitch on it while still there at the dealers...that way the dealer can see if it performs properly.

Kylnne2, I can't believe you went through all that with those machines and you are still sane  Also, I didn't know there were others out there who were as quirky as me: having to have everything done before I play. But, since my machine has been in for repairs for three weeks and now for three days, I don't think there is a dust bunny left anywhere :dave: The funny thing about the problem I am/was having with the machine is that at one point the thread was actually not in the needle and it never told me--I just happened to notice it. And, twice, I had a huge nest building and caught it. I did take it back to the place where it was purchased. And, Mary just called to tell me she had adjusted the bobbin tension (I was having problems with that, as well) but she didn't have any problem with the embroidery. She said it sewed 24,000 stitches without a hitch. So, there you are, they never misbehave for others, only their mothers  At any rate, my husband is out and he will stop by and pick it up and I am really anxious to play for a while. Wish me luck!

So far, so good. I have embroidered two things and not a hitch--but, I am careful to keep my magnetic pin cushion well away from the machine. Don't know if that is the culprit, but there is no use taking chances. I'm back to the workroom, talk with you later :dave:
