I called the Dr's office this AM to see if I could get into be seen for a sinus infection. This is a routine thing with me having allerigies. They are so booked with people wanting their flu shots before the serum runs out, that they are refurring patients to Urgent Care Clinics!!!! My insurance doesn't cover Urgent Care Clinics, only office and hospitals!!!!
Don't you think that it should be the Flu shot people going to the Clinics for this? I'm suffering with bad sinuses and can't get in to see the Dr now!!!!!
Are they having a shortage of the medication in Canada?

I did hear something about that on the nightly news. Can't remember what they said now.

I'm always supposed to get a flu shot, but I can't stand'em....so I always refuse....
I get sinus infections too....man is that miserable.....till you can get in try some Afrin (nasal spray) and some sudafed..I also like to keep a warm, moist cloth on my face. (as often as possible)

I don't think it's a good idea to let the flu shot folks in ahead of everyone else. It's not fair....

At my doc's office one nurse is responsible for giving flu shots to those who want them, so appointments aren't required and those that really need to see the doc are able to. I've been told that one manufacturer pulled it's supply from the market. Not sure why but the word out is that healthy adults have been asked to forgo the shot this year. If you have medical problems, elderly or a child they still want you to get them, or a healthcare provider. Shucks, I never get a break from them!

The Drug Co in England has pulled many of the flu shot batches due to contamination. It has been know to cause UTI's in those that have received the shots. Now this has created a MAJOR shortage in the vacine.
I want to know why are we not making our own flu vacines? Maybe we shouldn't, now knowing the Vioxx mess.

I was FINALLY able to get in touch with the Dr. tonight, and she phoned in a Rx for me. I mentioned to her about the office staff telling me to go to a "Clinic", she was not a happy camper after hearing this. Knowing my medical history and how I react to drugs, she told me that she would talk with her staff. This is not a good practice for a Dr's office to get inot the habit of doing, knowing that people have special needs in the first place!!!!

Yes, there is a serious shortage of the flu vaccine! The company in England was shut down due to contamination. They are requesting in the states that only high-risk patients apply for them

I won't be getting one, anyway. Did you know they contain Thimerosol? There are too many other [natural] things that work as good or better. I go on a serious vitamin and garlic regimen every winter - haven't had the flu in years. Now watch, having said that, I'll get it, lol...................

It's a preservative. You can also find it in a lot of contact solutions. Many people do develop an allergy to it.

It's mercury. Poison. Doctors are trying to get it banned in America for use in vaccines.

Here's a snip from a doctor's website -

snip-" Thimerosal is a mercury containing preservative used in the flu vaccine. Nearly all the vaccines commonly used
have thimerosol. Only the expensive, specially made and rarely used "preservative-free Fluvirin" is mercury free
(and not available because of contamination!). By the way, most other vaccines, including those used by children
contain this product. Doctors even went before Congress in 2001 to ask for the removal of Thimerosal to no avail.
The FDA only "suggests" that the manufacturers try to remove this poison. This week Congressional Health
Subcommittees were again warned about Thimerosal. Finally, they have decided to push forward to have the FDA
ban this terrible substance. "snip

With so many people unvaccinated world-wide, I am afraid that this will be a terrible flu year. More people able to catch the flu means more people can pass the flu.

I am beginning to think that the Drug Co.'s put stuff in our meds to make us sick, just so they can claim that they have a "NEW" cure for whatever is making us sick.

The Dr put me on Bactra and Vicodine for my sinus infection and I have to take Benedryl with it to keep from itching and breaking out in a rash!!!! The antibiotic is slowly starting to break up the infection, but my face still looks like a football.

( sorry if I mis-spelled anything, my fingers and brain are not working together very good today, must be the drugs :dave: :dave: )

I sure don't like the way that other companies capitalize on another company's bad luck! A local station said that last year our clinics were paying $70 a vial for their flu vaccination. This year the companies (which are privately owned) are charging $300 for the same vial. They are saying at that price, a lot of people won't be able to afford the shot anyway.

I've only twice had a flu shot: once because I was getting married and didn't want to risk the flu, and once because it was free. I don't particularly care for how I feel after receiving the vaccine, and I'm suspicious of their effectiveness.

So, THIS YEAR, I'm pregnant (my first!) and my obstetrician has said that I definitely need a flu shot - oh, but her office doesn't have any. Neither does my employer (a university that has an annual vaccination program for staff and students).

So, wouldn't you know that now that I really want and genuinely need a flu shot, I can't get one!

I guess it's time for me to make a lot of chicken soup, and build up my immune system thataway. I foresee frequent handwashing in my future.

The part I find funny about this, is I swear that every year since we've had the flu vaccine that we've had a shortage of it and they're asking healthy adults to not get it. So, after about the fourth year of hearing nonstop about the flu vaccine and how there's not enough, I tend to just tune it out because it doesn't seem to make much difference anyways if there's a shortage or not. The same people who were going to get it anyways got it.
I'm actually beginning to think that it's a conspiracy between the medical community and the media. The media gets everyone paranoid about flu shots and there not being enough so they all run in to get their shots, and so the doctors get their money. The media gets their news story. (Okay, I know it's not true, but it sure sounds good, after you hear the same story for the MILLIONTH time, I swear they're playing this news nonstop down here in Austin, and I'm really tired of hearing about it, it's been two weeks now of nothing but the flu vaccine!). :throw:
End of my little tirade.

Well, unfortunately, at least a portion of it must be true. Our local visiting nurse association does the shots each year all over the state for around $20. a shot. They have ordered all the supplies and booked their sites around the state waiting for the ful vaccine. They have had to cancel all of their bookings because they will get none of the vaccine this year. Because of the advance investment, they are concerned about remaining solvent this year. I'm sure that there are other health care associations that will be affected the same way.
