I am making a wall hanging and would like to put appliques on it. Should I stablize the back of the project where the applique will be? Would this help keep my seams from being pushed the wrong way? This is something new that I am trying and not really sure what to do. Also should I do any of the detail stitching on the applique before it's put on the project or can I do this after it's on, (i.e. snowman's face)?

I have done appliques with and without staziliers. And I have stitched some before putting on the backing and some after putting on the backing. I have cut out the back if the back material shows thru the applique. Hope that helps.

On wallhangings I like to use a light stablizer as it adds stability when hanging. Adding the face and such is up to you but most do it before just in case one makes a mistake as pigmapens don't washout.
