I had a couple of hours of lathe time this afternoon.
I finished one pen made from walnut, and another made from what I think is rose wood. An uncle of mine gave me the wood, I think someone bought it to replace some hand plane handles.

It's very hard to take a decent picture of a pen.
I also started to make dad a bowl, it's about 4" diameter and 1 1/8" deep
I made it so thin that in parts you can see daylight through the wood.

I'm lucky I survived moms cooking :p

I DID tell you my birthday's November 17, right? :bg:

You do beautiful work. How long have you been at it?

Mom, your pen is maple burl.
I've been turning for about a year and a half, but I've not had nearly as much time at the lathe as I should have.

I think you do awesome work, especially for starting so recently. I'd love to have a gorgeous pepper grinder like you made for your dad. Not only is it beautiful, but the pepper tastes so much better than the pre-ground stuff you buy.

Dave, you do beautiful work. Do you find it relaxing? Say, I have some pecan wood. All you need to do is come cut it down.

Thats a mean tease, pecean turns wonderfully, and I can't get it here.
I have my idea for my next mill, it should be ready sometime next week. I'm excited about it.

It is relaxing, but can get interesting if something lets go, or if you have a catch.
I'm lucky I survived moms cooking :p
