Can you estimate about how many yards of fabric you have stashed?? My daughter asked me just how much fabric I have when I was buying more one day. I can't resist clearance fabric. After looking around the sewing room.... I'm estimating at least 150 to 200 yards. My husband would be shocked if he REALLY looked around in the sewing room. I'm not telling. I don't ask about his Craftsman stuff. |

Including all of that which is stored up above the garage, I'd have to say about 1000. That's not bad, right? I started out with regular apparel fabric, then I moved to quilting fabric, then on to heavier renaissance appropriate fabric, then home dec fabric. Then of course I have all of my threads, stabilizers, embroidery floss for cross stitch, etc. etc. Jessica photos.yahoo.com/greendragondesigns

I only have a few hundred yards...but then I'm new to quilting. (when I gave up garment sewing a few yrs ago I made the mistake of giving away my fabric) Then I got these new machines and started buying fabric again....I think it's cheaper than drugs, booze and therapy....and I stay outa trouble. Of course I'm not counting all the hundreds of spools of thread I buy....cause I just gotta have it....I know I'll use it some day/soon.... Chrys

I don't want to even guess how much I have. My husband is glad that yard sale days are over for this year. Of course, he forgets I go to JoAnns and Walmart at least once a week to see whats on sale. In fact, I'm having an attack-- haven't been to either of those places this month. Trying real hard to use what I have. Got to go and quilt some more. I will get this done this month some how.

Lets guestimate 900 to 1000 yds. I am assuming that that is low. Sher My website

Oh Gawd, several hundred yards at least! I hate going into town(s), so I was OK up until about 10 yrs. ago when I discovered online fabric stores. And I'm not entirely sure it's cheaper than drugs either, Chrys. At some point with drugs, don't you just pass out? I can do 'fabric' all day and stay lucid, LOL! |

Probably less than 25 yards altogether. I couldn't for the longest while find any fabric over here for less than $15 a metre, which is a bit expensive when you're just learning how to sew. Now I've found a cheap fabric and notion place, I'd experiment a bit more. |

Hmmmm! Let's see. I have maybe 600 - 700 yards of quilt and garment fabric stashed in my sewing room. There's enough that if I needed too, I could hide my dh, my dog and myself under it and never worry about getting hit with any objects that may be flying around in a tornado!!! My quilt cronies and I came up with a good way to get rid of our stash when we die -- have all of our fat quarters and quilt yardage put in our casket with us and as our friends walk by for the viewing, they can each take a piece or pieces of fabric or a fat quarter(s) to remember us by. That way, our DH's don't have to worry about how to dispose of it. LOL Patsy Patsy

Wow! I thought I had a lot of fabric. I only have about 100 yds. Patsy, I love your idea. Maybe instead of having it in the casket they could lay it decoratively all around you instead of flowers. This also takes care of your husband trying to find a home for all the flowers. Gina

I would say I have at least 1500 yds. I sold about 500 yds at a garage sale this summer. I have at least 3 times that left.

Good idea Patsy. I'll tell you what, if ya'll hear that I've passed on, all of you send my hubby a condolence card with a very large self-addressed stamped envelope or box. That way he can mail all of my fabric to people who will love it as much as I did. I don't feel so quilty now hearing about these HUGE stashes. Where do you put it all? I have a hard time finding enough space for mine in my sewing room. (Yet I still bring home more) Do any of you ever go through your fabric occassionally and get rid of any? I do that about once a year. Then there's my kids who will occasionally need fabric for one project or another. One of my daughter's friends even "borrows" fabric sometimes. And hubby has been caught once looking for green fabric to rip into strips to tie up a plant. |

I wouldn't dare even to think how much yardage I have. I cut out17 yards the other day and didn't even put a dent in my stash. I have a cabinet full, 4 huge storage bins (big enough to hold 2 adults with room to spare) crammed full, plus a smaller one with pieces. Patsy at my MIL funeral we gave out her frog pins to all that came and still had some left over. She collected frogs for years and had a huge "stash" of pins. We just didn't know what we were going to do with them all. I still have those that I made for her. Brockie

Alas, it's been 5 years since my MIL passed away and all the frogs have gone on to find new homes. Wish I had known your address 5 years ago Libby! It's amazing the frogs we can find now that are so cute. We use to have to really hunt hard for something with a frog.

RE-DEEP ME TOO!!!!! Hey Pudge99, I like your fabric instead of flowers idea!!! Mine would even go one step further and ask for donations to help pay for the funeral!!!!! Either that or use to pay someone to take the rest of the stuff out of the house!!! Men, they just don't understand!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, I have about 500-600 yards of fabric |
