Was just wondering if anyone has made chenille. I signed up for a class at a local quilt shop for next week. Get rid of some more material.

I have made a chenille jacket from scratch. It is a lot of work.... The pattern I used had very few pieces. I used blue jean denim for the base and used two layers of chambray cotton. I have had lots of compliments on it. I am anxious to make another one. |

I have made a vest. A baby blanket. I also made a fleece jacket and on the sleeves did a chenille and it looks wonderful Doing chenille takes extra time but I think it is worth it.

This has been something I have been wanting to try, just never got around to it. So when I saw this class, I decided to give it a try. Its only $10.00. and I get a day away from the house.

I love doing the chenille! It is great! I work at Wal-Mart and our fabric department had a demo done on it one afternoon and the lady that did it had done a chenille potholder and I was hooked. I want to do a jacket too but just have not taken the time to do one. Have any of you seen jackets made like the rag quilts are made? I love that look too. You take any jacket pattern and do it just like you would a rag quilt and the look is so awesome. It takes time just as the chenille does but it is worth it! Good luck if you decide to try it. (If you do the rag jacket one thing to remember is to change your dryer vent about every 4 minutes) or better yet go down town and use a commerical dryer. Those dryers can handle the lint. Happy sewing to all of ya~

I have seen the jacket and want to make one too. I have made 3 blue jeans with flannel backing blankets that way and love them. I sold all 3. I did go and use the commerical dryers. The clipping is what takes all the time.

Carolyn, Did you just use the regular flannel you buy at wal-mart for your backing on your jackets> Hum. Never thought to line it using that! Super idea! Thanks for the info.

I used the one dollar a yard flannel from Walmart. I washed it a couple of times. Than I took old blue jeans, cut up the inside, Than I cut squares from the legs, cut squares around the pockets, used the waist band for some more decoration. On one I stenciled cars, trucks, trains, boats, and airplanes.Than you take a square cut from the flannel and a square of blue jean, put wrong sides together, sew 1/2 inches seam so the seam is on the blue jean side. After you get the squares sewn, you clip the seams. They now have special scissors for this. Than wash and dry. No, I don't have any pictures. I forgot to take any. But I am collecting old blue jeans again to make another one. Carolyn
