For some reason my bobbin thread is not pulling tightly when i sew...I have increased the tension, rewound the bobbin but it has never done this before the under stich has a funny loop in each stich....what could be the problem?

Please help.....

When my Singer does this, I turn the machine off and completely unthread it (bobbin and top thread both). Then check in and around the bobbin casing for any bits of thread or fuzz that may be stuck inside and clean them out. Completely rethread, turn back on and test.

I don't usually find any fuzz or thread lurking, but somehow the unthreading/rethreading/short downtime tends to appease the sewing gremlins. Good luck!

When my Singer started doing that, I had it overhauled by a sewing machine repair shop--three times at $50+ each time. I bought a Pfaff and solved the problem. :bolt:

hi, It would help us if you could tell us a little more info on your machine and the type of bobbins you are using. I have a brother machine and I can use the (singer brand) pre-wound bobbins you find at Wal-mart on it and my embroidery machine as well and they work super! I only buy Brother products. My MIL got me started on them 30 yrs ago and I just will not stray from them. Had good luck for all this time with them. A 12 pk is only like 2.35 at WM, so you might give these a try and see if they help your problem. Re thread and switch to another spool, that has also helped me. I think these machines all have little gremlins inside too that often say NAAH, let's play tonight and not sew right for our owner. LOL! Hope this helps ya! God Bless!

Have you tried tightening the bobbin tension? There should be a tiny screw that you can turn... a quarter of a turn. Tighty righty or lefty loosey. Try it and see if there is a change. If it is a bit improved... turn the screw another quarter. The bobbin tension on one of my machines used to get loose.. I would take it down to the repair guy and he would tighten it. I would go home and sew a bit and then it would loosen again. The last time I took it in he said that they might have to put a drop of glue on it... or replace the bobbin thingy. I took it home... and it was already loose and I hadn't even started to sew. I took it out and gave it a good turn and it was ok after that.. or perhaps I just knew what to do when it would loosen. Worth a try, right? Sue

You can never go wrong with Mischka's advice for any problem without an immediately obvious solution. Also evaluate the condition of your needle - changing the needle corrects many faults.
I have the same problem right now and I know I need to change the needle to fix it.

There might be lint or thread buildup in the spring. I can lightly lift mine and clean it or you could probably also run something back and forth through there like a piece of dental floss or even a small piece of paper or good thread. If there was buildup in the spring, it could be holding your spring on the bobbin open and the tension would not adjust.
