I've been making my own jeans for years now, and I've just decided to try making a pair of flannel-lined jeans for the cooler weather. I plan to just cut out the jeans pattern in denim, then again in flannel, put the 2 pieces together and treat each as one piece. Has anyone tried this? I'm wondering if I need to make the pieces a little larger to accomodate the lining. |

I've underlined a lot of things and never had to cut larger. But maybe if your jeans are really tight you might want them a tiny bit larger, I guess. I never have with slacks. Dorothy |

Tight? Nah--I'm too old for tight. I just want to make sure they're not too tight once they're lined. |

I made lined pants for my grandsons and never made any adjustments. But why would you need them in California.

I'd sure preshrink everything before I cut because I would expect the two fabrics to shrink differently.

Both are cotton and both shrink a lot. Paroper's right -- shrink the heck out of them first and you should be alright. Dorothy |

Why would I need them in California? Well... I live in the foothills of snowcapped mountains. We spend a lot of time outside, including evenings. Sometimes it gets downright cold! Temps go down below freezing, and when you live in a normally warm climate, freezing is, well, freezing! Also, we have friends who've recently moved to Alaska, and they expect us to visit them there. They've advised me (knowing I'm always cold) to bring my warmest clothes when I go. Okay, I've preshrunk everything. Now I just need to get started!!! |

Ok, didn't realize it got that cold. It was below freezing here this morning too. You will love Alaska, it's just so beautiful.

Are you able to take the ferry from the lower states? That was one of my parents' favorite way to go up. It is really lovely country (so is Canada).

Have you also thought about making pant liners for wearing under other slacks besides jeans? They will keep you warm. We don't have but a few weeks of very cold weather and the pant liners are just right for those days. Happy Stitching! Marty It takes one moment to change a life.

Take the ferry!?!? I get motion sickness very easily. We're planning on flying in (to Sitka). Pant liners? Hmmmmm..... I think I need to look into that. But I still want warm jeans. Actually, I can't remember wearing pants other than jeans. Maybe I should make some slacks too. |
