Hi I am new to sewing and I am making a queen size bed spread, I want to tie the middle with yarn so that the batting dont bunch. I am making it out of flannel. I am also adding cording as an accent. I have this pictured in my head just not sure how to get the results..lol So far I have both pieces of fabric cut out and now I am at a loss as to where to go from there. I am not sure if I should tie it now. Will I need something to stretch the material?? Should I hem it now or wait until I tie it? I am so sorry for all the questions. I just am not sure what to do next. I appreciate any help that is given.

thanks again

Marcie

I've always tied the bedspread last. Instead of yarn, I have always used 6 strand embroidery floss in a large-eyed sharp needle. This is what my grandmother used. It comes in a variety of colors and is not as prone to stretch and wear as yarn. We still have blankets that she tied that are over 50 years old and have been used and washed a lot.

I'm sure that there are other methods to do this and I'm sure that people who quilt can give you better ideas but I've always sewn my bedspreads right sides to right sides and turned them, slip stitching the closing and then quilting or tying them. I am sure that the easiest way might be to bind the edges, but I hate binding, so I prefer to stitch turn and sew or tie. I have also used homemade or purchased cording on the outside of some bedspreads to define the edges.
