Has anyone been watching this. Not surprised at the picks, but my DH and I both feel that Terry Fox, knowing he was dying and still kept on, is the greatest canadian. It's too bad we can't pick them all, execpt Trudeau, he created triple inflation with our metric conversion. First we paid for the difference, then the new packing and then higher prices with less product. He forced us to spend, we had to change tools for the equipment and there still is standard and metric. |

Shirley, I'm surprised at you...the metric system added 3 full inches per unit to fabric purchases! I won't get into politics, because it isn't allowed on the forums, but my husband and I believe Trudeau was a truly great Canadian. Since we're in the USA, we didn't get to see the program. Which station carried it, and who were the other great Canadians on the list? Take care,

You can look at the website at www.cbc.ca/greatest . Do you really beleive Don Cherry deserves to be in that list over Trudeau. I would of put just about anyone in that list over Don Cherry. I really beleive it should be Banting, Bell or Pearson. Sher My website

Well! I am absolutely appalled! There are no great Canadian women??? I say take Don Cherry out and add a woman to the list. What about that woman down in Nova Scotia?...you know, the one that decided that she needed to create a sewing website. Next thing you know, people from all over the world are logging on, making friends, getting encouragement to learn new things, sharing great tips and techniques on just about everything from sewing & crafts to cooking to keeping healthy, from running a business to running a toddler to potty, from finding great bargains to finding your marbles. Yep, it's all here. Thanks, Mary! I didn't realize that the goal of the program was to choose the 'best'. I don't get this whole 'superlative' thing. Who's the best? Who's the greatest? It seems silly to me(I almost put a sexist remark here, but thought better of it ) I agree with Sherri about Don Cherry, (and I'm not sure about Wayne Gretzky, either) but the others have all contributed, each in his own way, to the betterment of society in general. Take care,
Donna |

Forgot about Don Cherry. Couldn't understand why he got picked either. And we definitley paid for the 3 inches of fabric. There were some great people chosen, but as usual us women got left out. If I'm right of the one hundred, seventeen women were chosen. |

Our highest woman was Shania Twain at 18. But others such as Nellie McClung or Laura Secord were better. Sher My website

going on the mentioned sites has been very interesting to read. It's a nice change to read about people who are highly respected ( or not ) in another country and how they are viewed by their countrymen. I enjoyed reading about Harriett Tubman-Davis and her works with the Underground Railroad. Ohio has a strong history with helping with the Underground Railroad. While working with my old Girl Scout ( Guides in Canada) troop we found a map of one of the trail that they would use at the library. One o f the houses that theyuse was located on the west side of our town. The house is still standing but has been moved from it's originial location. Okay, dumb question time: Is the story about Anne Shirley fiction or is it based on a real person? This is one of my all time favorties. |

Anne Shirley from "Anne of Green Gables" is a fictional character if that is the one you are asking about. Love that story. I am a fan of Celine Dion, she is a true honest, down to earth person. |

I watched Celine last night on Larry King. They held the interview on the stage that she performs on in Las Vegas. She comes across as very genuine to me, she cries at the drop of a hat and her hands are always moving. MaryW

I saw Celine on Larry King, too. I agree, she is very genuine. I've seen her in other interviews, and she is always the same. I saw Shania on Oprah one day, and she is also sincere and genuine...totally different personality from Celine, but seems like a very considerate person as well. Take care,

Shania is sincere Donna, she is from my home town and I have met her. The huge Shania centre they built is right behind my older boys home. She is visiting shortly so will be good for the economy. |

I was offended that Nellie McClung (?spelling) didn't make it to the list and Don Cherry of all people did. scary!! Adrienne Clarkson is a pretty cool lady too. Didn't see Joseph Howe there either, guess freedom of speech in the press is taken for granted now Jeanette

I wonder who came up with the lists in the first place...I thought I would see Lorne Green in the top 100, but I guess there just isn't enough room for all of the entertainers, politicians, and hockey players.
Take care,
