I'm a newbie to quilting and have now made two rag quilts. One was recyled from all of my families jeans. I made it for my youngest daughter to take to her first year of college. She loves it and says it keeps her nice and warm. I just finished a Baby Rag Crib/Lap Quilt for my co-workers daughter who is expecting in January. I really like making these quilts. I have posted some pictures of them. If you would like to see pictures of them, click on the link below.

Thanks for the compliments. As far as the baby quilt, I used a "soft" flannel that I purchased at Joanns. I think the company name was called something like Dreamworks? These quilts are fun and can be made very fast. I am going to try a traditional quilt one of these days. I have a kit, that I purchased for a wall hanging, that I want to try next.

I have also made some tote bags this way. The young girls love them. I make one for a friend's granddaughter. She loved. Ended up making 5 more and she sold them to her friends for me.

Carolyn,

Did the appliques look familiar? I just love the machine. Those were the first two I made. I also thought about making scrap rag jean totes for my nieces for Xmas. Glad to hear it is popular among the teens.

Yes they did look alot like some I made when I first got the machine. The bags are a big hit with the girls around here. We aren't that far apart so the girls around you probably will like them too. I was thinking of making 3 more for my nieces, too.

Glad to hear you are having a great time and welcome to the boards. I check in every now and then but less during the summer - kids- lots of wonderful people around here and I know you will make some great friends.

If you haven't considered it look into a local quilt group. It is great just to see all the wonderful quilts people make but don't feel like yours has to be perfect. Were all started somewhere! Nobody born with needle in hand you know and I have met some really nice people in our local group. New blood is always welcome. A Halloween pun...

Thanks for the warm welcome Lilac. I did check into a local group (about 21 miles away), but they meet once a month during a work day. I still work full-time, so I cannot attend their meetings. They don't have them in the early evenings, which would be better for me.
:bluesad:

So now I'm visiting these boards to learn more about quilting and to get advice and inspiration from all of you experienced quilters.

Happy Quilting

Is there is a small quilt shop in your area you might want to ask if there is another group.

didn't know it but there are actually three different groups around our small area. The local quilt group, a stitch and bitch group at the local hospital that also makes quilts, and a group at the YWCA that has a varriety of crafts including quilting, spinning, knitting, crochett, needlepoint, ect. I also know someone who used to just get together with a group of friends at her house and worked on quilts together. I am amazed the group you found only meets during the day....

There is also the classes at the local quilt shop, of course, but I also heard that a local craft store (I think she has yarn) also hosts quilting bees on occasion so I wouldn't be surprised if you found another group to attend. It has been a really wonderful experience so keep looking.

Keep asking around and you may find something that works for you.
