I was looking for red velvet, but I only found velveteen. What is the difference? It's for a bodice of a Daisy Kingdom dress #4808.

Velvet is usually Rayon & dryclean only.Very soft & drapes well. Velveteen is usually cotton, stiffer but more washable. Hope this helps.

True velvet is higher priced. There are grades of velvet. Essentially, the higher the price, the better the velvet. It is not unusual to pay around 15 dollars a yard or higher for decent velvet. Both fabrics are woven and not stretchy. The stretchy stuff is velour or something of that type. Of course, "Mom" is right about the stiffness and fabric content. Not all velveteen is washable.

Velveteen is perfect for children's wear. It is sometimes narrower, also less expensive and washable.
