Hi Dallas41 and welcome to Sew Whats New. If I am not mistaken, there are stretchers that can be put into boots and shoes for this reason. Has anyone else seen these? They won't stretch the boot a large amount but maybe enough. MaryW

Does anyone know the best way to modify zip up boots to fit over larger calves? Looking forward to the ideas. My mom had a pair made larger by a shoe repair man. It was expensive, and they looked lousy. I think it was a complete waste of money. I have large calves too and I buy hiking type boots that lace up instead. I often have to buy men's, since they sell out of the larger sizes for ladies too quickly. These don't look good with anything dressy, but I avoid dressy clothes when I have to go out in winter anyway. If you must wear dressy boots, why not buy something with a lower cut top and make a pair of fake leather spats or leg warmers to wear over them? I made a pair in fake fur once, and they worked well. It was a very short pile fabric, I made them a snug fit, and pull on, and wore them with suede short boots. No one ever noticed that they were two pieces, the boot and the leg warmer. These days, keeping warm is more important to me, and I stick with slacks and my hiking boots, with real wool insoles that I add ( you can buy them). You can always get nice black lace up boots that are low cut, and then wear them with dressier slacks. Emmy |
