Hi all - it's been awhile since I've posted. I have gotten interested in making some forest animals, stuffed in a folk-artsy way, made of worked over fabric, baked and grunged, painted and shaped. Anyone else out there doing anything similar, or have a pattern or 2 to share? I am almost finihed with a raccoon, and have been doing several red cardinals on dowell sticks. I will share if you will share! Hee Hee! Annie in Colorado ~ Have A HaPpY HaLLoWeeN*!!

Hi coloradoanni, welcome back. Your critters sound interesting. Is this a hobby or do you sell them? MaryW

Well, gosh! I just started making a few,and am still experimenting. I have a tiny doll studio/ rented area in an historic building/ where I experiment, design & make, re-do patterns, and possibly take orders for something special. (Like an original hand-sewn Scarecrow I did for a local newspaper business) Doll-making is not a money-making business. Not unless you have lots of capital floating around, where you an build up advertising and an image: making a unique style for a created "doll world". We have a place or two like that in my historic arts district: one is Simpich dolls (site on the web) handmade character dolls ~not fabric , and another is artist Michael Garman, who creates "townscapes", and has tourist appeal. (He does figure sculptures and has a big place called "Magic Town".) /// So I have inspiration all around me --but I am just a struggling artist, creating what strikes me to be relevant and/or historical. No I m not selling these items as yet --am looking for fun ideas, and to see what other crafters are interested in. It's fun to try new approaches*!! I like working with fabric, altho I was a graphic artist in the past.

It sounds like the ideal location and atmosphere to create dolls. How wonderful for you. I haven't really figured out what I want to do yet. I have an old doll that I want to dress. She is about 60-65 yrs. old with no hair. ACK!!! MaryW

What kind of material is the doll? Is it a cloth doll, or a composition, etc*? ? I do not know much about other dolls/ old dolls/ regarding doll repair. I love to look at them tho. I like the "old" look! Ebay has doll supplies, and probably some wigs, mohair, etc... depends on what you might be looking for....... There are web sites for all kinds of dolls --it is mind-boggling how many people are interested in, or are selling, exchanging, etc.> a variety of doll types! You have to kind of narrow down your search: in order to find the proper categories for items.
