Hi, I just purchased 2 boxes with everything you need to make your own personal fitting pattern. It's by Dusan Mrak. One box has all the templates , instructions, and a master pattern for a dress and the other box has everything for pants. It's called Magic Fit master pattern. Has anyone of you ladies tried this before? Apparetly I just have to take my body measurements and follow his master pattern and join the llines and I then have my very own personal pattern. It goes from size 28-60. I b ought it at a Thrift store and it's never been used that I can tell. I'm anxlious to get started on it. Can you imagine having your very own fitting pattern? It was first produced in 1984 but hey someties the old way is better. Any suggestins about this would be great. Thanks Buttons

I have never heard of it before but it sounds pretty neat. Try it out and let us know what comes of it all. What a find!

Dear Buttons,

I know Dusan Mrak personally. He lives a few blocks away. He has a video to teach you how to use your pattern system. I think it is not expensive. If you give me your e-mail address I will pass it along to him. He is a great guy. We filmed some of his video for him. He started the American Fashion Institute. He sold those world wide.

Regards

Mary Stevens

I have a system that sounds like what you are talking about.. Bought it eons ago at a special seminar by the man who invented it.. You take a jillion measurements and then mark the corresponding number on a piece of pattern paper, then connect the dots, and you have a pattern.. It was the greatest fitting garment I ever made... (mine, my mom's, and my sister's) I never got the pants pattern, and lost track of name , address and all that stuff..My box is lost in my sewing room somewhere..I need to dig it out and update a pattern for me.. I need a new basic black dress..

Hi, I just want to brag about Dusan Mrak and Mary Stevens. They sent me the tape of the dress and pants drafting. I think they are wonderful people who really do care about others and how they are making out with the drafting stuff. The tape may be 10 yrs. old but all of the basic details are all you need and those never get outdated. I'm so fortunate to have had contact with both these wonderfull people and have been emailing back and forth discussing various issues. Hope you get a chance to correspond with them like I have. I'm just in the process of learning how to draft a pattern and will post how I make out with it. kewankiw

Me too. It was called Lutterloh. I never made anything with it. Once I got it home it was just too confusing. :nc:

I took the class in 1984 with my aunt. Dusan chose her to be a model since she was only 4'10". Her patterns fit her perfectly. Mine were good too, but at the time I was still able to make something right from the pattern envelope with no alterations, so didn't really use them. I found my kit (top & dress only) today & will be making myself a pattern this weekend. I would love to find the pants kit too.

:Canada: :  If you look at the third message on this site you will see where Dusan's friend, Mary has given her email address and maybe she would help anyone that needs more info. She is a real sweety I don't want to give his email out without his permision. He has a website for other things but I don't think there is one for the drafting. I will check on that and let you know. kewankiw

Well I just won the bid for the same pattern drafting system. I already can draft, but I like the idea of having the system for reference when teaching. I got a real deal and only paid a total of 7.30 for it. There were several others all under 10.00. I would love to have the video no matter how old it is. The old way sure has a way of repeating itself.

I am still waiting on the package to arrive. I may email her today if it does not come today. I will find out what day it was mailed. I did pay extra for insurance, so we will see.

I got it today... I am so excited but I am really upset too!

The mailman had been putting mail at the old adress even though we had a hold on all mail at that house. So each day I got angry looks from the postal clerk becasue I was checking my mail almost everyday. Each day I would get only a few pieces of mail. But in the late evening after my husband would come home he would bring in mail from the old house... ... So when I told them about it, they naturally did not put our mail at either house... :nervous: ... So I got up today having a day from you know where... And then my dh went to get somethings from the old house for the storage house and guress what was delivered on yesterday? You guessed it.. My dusan kit. . But I am going to take a long bath. Relax with a stiff one... :bluewink: diet pepsi of course, icy cold...and then read my books and everything that came with it. And just be at peace with the world...ahhhhhh

This is just an update for all of you on my good fortune.. I purchased this system for dress or blouses, or skirts back in the 70's when he was traveling around , giving seminars on how to measure and make your patterns from his kit.. At the time, I was a newly single parent who had to return to the work force at age 45 and had no spare money, so I did not get the pants kit. (separate purchase at that time) So, when this appeared I e-mailed mary stevens (above) and she sent me the 800 number to place an order.. Well, I got tangled up in a new phone system and they did not respond to my first message , or 2nd, so I e-mailed her with Help as the subject.. She answered right back and told me about the new phone system.. (putting new messages at the bottom) She told Dusan Mrak about my problem and the wonderful man called me himself to take my order... It was worth all that, I must tell you.. and I sent Mary a thank you e-mail.. When I was telling her about one of the good points of this system, I thought you might like to know it also.. IT IS THE BEST WAY OF CUSTOM FITTING THE BUST AREA I HAVE EVER SEEN IN ANY SYSTEM.. Also like I said earlier, you have to take numerous measurements, but that is what makes it work.. Thanks for reading....

The New Magic Fit Master Pattern kit co-labeled designing with Dusan did not work for me.

I have tired it several times. I don't really know why it did not work for I tried it quite some time ago. It was registered Oct 1974. Is this the same units you are discussing that you are finding for sale?

Perhaps I was younger then and id not know about some fitting fixes I know now. I was thinner then and younger without so many areas needing so many alterations.

I may want to try it again.

I have tried the Click and Sew from wildginger software and was pretty happy with it. There were very few alterations needed with it. It would be nice if Dusan's could work for me since I already own it. Did he make a newer version that has corrected something since the kit I bought? Anyone know?

I think the Lutter bach (spelling) system is by someone else. I own it too and have not had great results.

Sorry to sound negative, but you asked.

If you have the directions to re-take your measurements, then you should get a helper and re-measure yourself.. Then, take the guide , mark all the points, and connect the dots (so to speak) and make your new pattern. If it does not fit you to a T, then your helper must have measured you wrong, or you marked the master wrong.. This method is totally foolproof.. I used it for me, my mother, my sister, and 2 friends , and also an aunt.. I always was careful not to leave a permanent mark on my master, so that I could re-use for others with no trouble..You cannot shortcut, though. You have to take every single measurement it calls for.. I suggest you try again.. Do something simple like a simple shirt or something, to test with.. I wear classic styles so I use one patttern over and over after I create it with this method.. Change the fabric and change the accessories and notions and no one ever knows anyway.. :bg: :bg:

Leapfrog, I'm so glad you brought this up. I've been looking for days on the internet for how to adjust a raglan sleeve pattern for a DD+ bustline. I bought both Dusan's and the Lutterloh method back in the early 70s and used Dusan's once. Made the best-fitting pair of pants I ever owned. (Which was tremendous for the tiny-waisted, big-hipped, short-legged young woman I was at the time.) I don't know WHY I didn't think of using it to make some clothes that fit my (sadly) much bigger body. I remember I vastly preferred Designing with Dusan over Lutterloh. And the pants pattern is beyond fantastic. I found the notes I had jotted down during the class I attended with my mom and they don't seem to make sense any more. Duh! It's been 30 or so years.... I'm glad to know the tape is still available and I'll be ordering it ASAP.

BTW - I'm brand new to Sew What's New and really enjoying it. Love to hear from anyone who designs Renaissance & Medieval clothing or cosplay costumes.
