For some reason i try and try but cant seem to get my pants that make for myself to turn out the way i like.....

My measurements are a bit tricky....my waist calls for a size 28 but my hips (which are large) call for a 30....I keep cutting the pattern to match this but they just fit like clown pants...

Any suggestions.....the problem is in the butt and inter seam area...

I also have trouble fitting pants and I fall into two sizes as well, with my waist being one size smaller than my hips. My fitting problem has to to do with the crotch seam...my front crotch is shorter by 1-2 inches than most patterns and my back crotch seam is about 1/2-1 inch longer than most patterns, so I have to adjust the crotch curves on my patterns.

For you, I would recommend taking your measurements and comparing them to the finished garment measurements of the pattern you are using. I'll bet that your pants are actually too loose around your hips. You could probably use a smaller size. Also, for some reason, pattern companies think that the bigger you are, the more crotch room you need. Try shortening the crotch depth by folding out the excess on your pattern.

Good luck.

good fitting pants is a bit like searching for the holy grail.
I have recently just about got there. There are some good books like pants for real people, Sandra Betzina Fast Fit and the September Threads magazine has some useful tips. I have to say I used tips from all three plus DS set up his digital camera so that I could view my rear end on the TV screen. I did describe what I did in an post last week.
Good luck

I have had best luck with the stretch n sew pants patterns, but these may not be available to you. If you already have a pair of pants that fit or almost fit, you can cut a pattern in your size, and then turn your pants inside out to compare to the pattern. Many patterns have these huge fat legs for some reason-------I fold the pattern to nick em in so the pants look right. Also be careful about the rise--the length between the waist and the crotch. Fold or extend the pattern to suit your body!

Good luck with your pants project!

I cannot describe it, but if you read a good book on fitting, there will be pictures of how to measure yourself. The ones that show measuring yourself from center front waist thru the crotch area to center back waist, and then you take a string that is that long and suspend a weight from it, (I used my scissors) and hold the string the same place you measured, then, grab the string very carefully where the scissors are and mark this place.. That should be where your front and back comes together in the crotch area.. You really need to look at the pictures to understand this procedure.. It makes for great fitting pants..

I sewed all the seams together last night and tried them on....to my surprise they fit great...the first few pair i made at a 32 but this time i threw caution to the wind and cut at a 28 and it worked.....i now have to take back all these patterns i got for the 26 cut and get a 28 or i could just add the extra when i cut them out...

I will try them on tonight and have my hubby take pics of my behind so i can see if the seam is fitting in the rear correctly....

I love the fit...at least my crouch seam is not at my knees...
